Anyone with knowledge on this... specifically UT Austin? My daughter asked me review her application for errors and I don't remember seeing any requirement for teacher recommendations. For her specific major, the school specifically requests that they are NOT sent. Why would that be? Have they become useless? I guess if everyone has one, they are not scale tippers. I mean really....are students going to pick someone who would be negative....of course not.

I think you’ve about hit the nail on the head. UT is very numbers driven, some majors even more so. A LOR isn’t going to be a game changer.

However, those LORs are needed for some scholarships, so if she’s applying for any of those, make sure she still gets a set.

Good luck!

My D applied last year and yes, Texas publics are purely on stats - GPA, class rank and SATs. Easy to apply, but very impersonal.

Ok perfect. Just wanted to make sure we were not overlooking something. She really wants the Plan II program and you would think a program like that, which is so small and personal would not want more information. Oh well :o)

Collegeshopping…when we went to Longhorn Saturday last summer, they stressed that an expanded resume is very helpful and highly recommened sending one in. Is your D top 8%?If so, the expanded resume might help her in getting into her first choice major. If sheis not top 8% and not an auto admit, then it might help her get into UT period…we did send one in with D’s application and she was not top 10%. I know some kids from her HS that were ranked higher than D that did not get in…they also did not send in an expanded resume.

They seem to really discourage the whole expanded resume thing. It is confusing…lol. I guess that will be her call. She is actually top 1%!! So we have the auto admit on our side…it is the Plan II that is a long shot.

This is what their website says:

“Plan II has discontinued the requirement for a teacher recommendation. There is no Plan II Honors form, electronic or paper, for teacher recommendations. Nor is there a form or requirement for counselor reports or counselor recommendations.”

It’s no longer a “requirement,” but that doesn’t mean you can’t send one in.

Ds also sent in an expanded resume and LORs. He had great scores but not top 10% (or even top quarter!), but got in and got scholarship money. He didn’t apply to Plan II.

A killer essay is the most important thing when applying to Plan II.

I guess what gets me is that it states there are no forms on online way to submit these. So even if we wanted to send them, there is not way too?? Is that right?

D’s essays are with her AP Lit teacher right now. But she will probably only check spelling/gram…etc. I wish there was someone out there that would/could opinion on content!! Especially Plan II people…KWIM?
