MOC nomination slates can be submitted to the academies in one of three ways: (1) Principle nominee with alternates ranked by the MOC - academy admissions office is obligated to offer appointment to principle if qualified, if not work down the list in the order specified; (2) Principle nominee with alternates on a competitive basis - academy admissions office is obligated to offer appointment to principle if qualified, if not they can rank the balance based on applications; and (3) List of competitive or unranked nominees - academy admissions office ranks nominees based on applications and offers appointments on this basis.

Well West Point did send me an appointment update. It was in a big priority mail envelope, and inside was a leather book with an update- I got an appointment. Hooah!

We are fighting the Dodmerb fight...my son is working on a medical waiver, currently under review by the USMA Surgeon. Yesterday he got a letter from Dodmerb asking him to send a signed statement that he can participate in all athletic activities. I am taking that as a positive sign since they aren't asking for more doctor opinions or tests. The medical disqualification was ridiculous to start with and was immediately waived for ROTC. My nerves will be shot by the time we find out if he gets an offer of admission this year!

More paperwork from DODMERB is usually a good sign (unless it says waiver denied on it, that is), especially if your responses to it only strengthen your case. Good luck.

NA1987, did you get a call from your congress office or anyone else telling you about the appointment before you got the packet in the mail?

I heard nothing until I got the packet in the mail. It was just a letter in a hardback cover and I also got a book on what to do to enroll and prepare. Now I just hope for the sake of the other nominees that I hear from Navy soon, which is my first choice.

When i was getting all my remedials in for DoDMERB West Point did send me a letter. The letter stated that I was both phisically and academically qualified, but my medical status was not complete. I assume they sent me that letter to let me know that my time getting all the DoDMERB stuff in was not going to waste.

I had to do remedials. I got a letter from West Point saying I was academically and physically qualified, a few weeks later I finished my remedials, then about 2 weeks after I sent in my DoDMERB remedials, DoDMERB sent me a letter saying I am 100% qualified for West Point. I never got a letter from the Academy saying I am medically qualified. The academy and medical stuff is seperate, but they talk to each other. The academy itself doesn't evaluate your medical status.

NA1987,

That's just how my daughter found out. A package just showed up in the mail. It was a great day for her.

Congratulations to you, landsy, and rasdad's son (ras?) on your appointments.

landsy, isn't Necrotizing Fasciaitis the flesh eating bacteria? That's pretty crazy.

How long did you guys have to wait after sending in the remedials and getting the appointment? I sent my paperwork in and got a letter from DoDMERB a week ago and I am patiently waiting for the appointment, but it is not so patient anymore. I have an LOA and principle Nom.

Received waiver on DODMERB issue the last of January, then they reviewed the other remedial information we had sent in last Oct. Once that cleared it was two weeks after everything was clear. Also had LOA. Sent in the acceptance card today.

haha yea it is flesh eating. On average there is an 80% mortality rate. I was very fortunate to come out unscathed except for a few minor scars. I knew as soon as I told DoDMERB about it that they would be sending remedials.

That is crazy. All I have to say is that God must really want you to go to West Point.

PS- I can garuntee this is the first time I've ever seen someone laugh while typing "yea its flesh eating." Way to be a trooper landsy!

Well once you go through it it just becomes sort of matter of fact. The way I look at is just like... yea sh** happens.
