Appointment

West Point is beginning to send out a few appointments; I received mine in the mail today. It was quite a treat to see that laying on the doorstep. Best of luck to every candidate finishing up the process right now.

Wow. An appointment in October. That's incredible. How did you do that? I didn't know they give them out that early. You must have some awesome stats or a recruited athlete!

Appointments are given out only after a nomination is acquired. Must be a presidential/ vp/or service connected nom as I don't believe any members of congress do them so early. Congrats--are they still sending the green folder?

I received a Presidential nomination and my appointment came through that category. It was a tidy little package professionally presented with a nice black-colored folder--no green folder (unless I'm mistaking black for a very dark green). And no, I'm not a recruited athlete.

That explains it. Last year my daughter's appt came in a (very) green folder and her Naval Academy Appt came in a black folder. Perhaps this year they are using the same color for all of the academies. Once nominations are given the academy is free to issue appointments.
Again, Congrats!

fiterace,

Congratulations to you! It's a tremendous honor to receive an appointment and to have one in hand this early must feel great.

Do you know yet if you'll be accepting the appointment?

fiterace87 - Congratulations!

Thanks for the encouraging words, everyone. I am also applying to USNA and USAFA, and (if I receive appointments to USNA and USAFA) am still undecided as to which academy I will ultimately attend. Depending on if I receive appointments to the other two, I will have to sit down and lay out my options and decide from there. I have scheduled an overnight visit to West Point during October, and most likely will try to set up an overnighter at USNA; I did not attend either's summer programs due to scheduling conflicts, so I suppose it would be wise to visit both and try to get a feel for the atmosphere--positive or negative, etc--before making a final decision. I most likely won't head out to USAFA for an overnighter because I was able to attend their summer seminar.

However, I am VERY impressed with the amount of interest that West Point has shown me, and how quickly they are working to get appointments out early. Navy and Air Force both seem to be dragging their feet a little. I suppose ultimately this is not a big factor, but first impressions really do make a difference--and my impressions of West Point are that it is a very classy organization.

Again, thanks for everyone's support, and best of luck to all the other candidates out there.

fiterace,

All the service academies are classy organizations, and you sound like you are going about this decision using a very sound process. The best of everything to you. Just remember...

Go Army, Beat Navy! ;)

I wouldn't judge any of the service academies by the admission process. The Admissions Offices, in my opinion, don't fully reflect the larger organizations. A lot depends on the Regional Admissions Officer, etc. When you do your analysis I'd spend less time on actually comparing the schools and more time comparing what they train you for and what you'll be doing during your five years plus commitment afterwards.

On the other hand, remember the Naval Academy has air-conditioned rooms. I don't know if that's why many midshipmen choose USNA. :)

momoftwins: now lets not get fiterace87 all confused- she has enough to contemplate without us leading her astray.....its "Go Navy, Beat Army".... :) (congrats fiterace87! job well done!)

Army LOA's went out earlier than Navy and AF last year as well.

Next weekend Navy XC team travels to West Point to run against Army.

It's definitely GO Army, Beat Navy!!!

Army Booters Defeat Navy in "Star" Match

Kosco Scores Game Winner in 1-0 Blanking

Oct. 7, 2005

Box Score

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The conditions could not have been any worse as heavy rain and wind pelted the players and turned the field into a quagmire of mud, but Army made Leigh Kosco's early goal stand and Rebecca Garcia turned aside all six shots as the women's soccer team held on to defeat Navy, 1-0, in the annual "Star" match Friday evening at the Glen Warner Soccer Facility.

You would have thought all the water would favor the aquatic Navy team.

However, when it comes to mud, Army excels.

I got my appointment today

when is the last day to accept/deny the offer of admission?

Congratulations armyboy on a job well done! Are you applying to any other academies or just West Point? Do you plan to attend?

thanks,

i might apply to navy, but right now im leaning toward west point. im also looking at army rotc at duke, washington university in st louis, and princeton.

armyboy,

Congratulations!!! It's quite an honor to receive an appointment and when it's this early in the game, that says a lot about you.

Best of luck!

To answer your original question, the deadline is usually May 1st...so you have lots of time.

Fiterace, navy2010 said, "lets not get fiterace87 all confused- she has enough to contemplate" but I had the feeling you were male. Which is it?

Also did you ever get to test for you CAP Spaatz?

Hoping you get all three of your appointments and have to make that agonizing decision. Maybe you'll be a third year at USNA when my daughter gets there?

Congrats again, love to see CAP Cadets achieve their goals.
