<p>I am from Northern Virginia (Washington DC suburbs)</p>
<p>Is everyone here definitely planning on going to USAFA, or are there some whose minds are not completely made up? I am not sure where I will/truly want to go right now. I still want to hear from navy, UVA, and a few others before I decided </p>

<p>alexk330 - I believe that I read that you wanted to check you stats with prep school hopefulls after rereading your post - the prep school is fantastic - my friend's son is attending now and is hoping to be a cadet at the AFA playing football next year - he will be much better prepared than most as a result of living the military life for a year.
- are you a competitive athlete? are you a minority? Have you talked with anyone about your interest in prep school? don't give up if you want this you need to continue and press on</p>
<p>I'm still waiting (darn that March 31/April 1 decision date), but I'm about 85% certain I'm going, especially since none of the schools excite me as much as USAFA.</p>

<p>Thanks offhegz. I am aware of how much better prepared the school will make me. The thing is, I am not not a minority or a D1 potential athlete. I made it clear to my ALO that I definitely want to go to prep school if I do not get into the academy, so he said he would let the academy know of my interest although I am not sure how effective that may be.</p>
<p>The Falcon Foundation started to look at applicants in Feb. you may want to get familiar with this process - the following I copied and pasted right from the AFA website:
Falcon Foundation
The Falcon Foundation provides a limited number of highly motivated students the opportunity to prepare for admission to the U.S. Air Force Academy by providing scholarships to specially selected civilian junior colleges and preparatory schools in various parts of the nation. </p>
<p>The Foundation recognizes that many deserving young people with outstanding potential for an Academy education and a desire for an Air Force career, need additional academic preparation. The Foundation endeavors to meet this need through its sustaining program of annual scholarship grants. The Foundation recognizes that the request for a scholarship is an alternate plan to obtain additional education because the applicant has failed to gain an appointment on their first attempt.</p>

<p>I think most of the appointments will be received shortly since the appointee orientations are during April and people have to make travel arrangements.</p>

<p>Thanks everyone. I do not know yet if I will accept the USAFA appointment, but it looks like if I go to an academy that will be where I go, and as of late it is looking like I will go to an academy. I just want to make sure that it really is what I want before I sign my life away for 9 years. I am going to orientation on April 11-12, so hopefully I can find out a lot more there.</p>

<p>As far as my stats, etc... ha. I have no idea how I got into USAFA compared to you guys. I have no varsity sport letters (though I didn't do sports until senior year and did ballet up until then), and my element leader recs from Summer Seminar weren't spectacular. My element leader and I got along really well and he liked me, but definitely wrote me down for never being on time and not passing the PAE when I was there. Stupid altitude. We're below sea level here and USAFA is quite a bit higher up...
Anyway, I'm going to take my good fortune and run with it. I'll see you kids at I-day on June 30!</p>
