I believe USMMA will accept a nomination from ANY Congressman, not just your districts.

Wow, it's pretty bad when your mom ends up posting as -yourself-. I just found out about this thing =P ... Don't we all love our mamas? So I suppose I'll start posting and hope she doesn't try embarrassing me anymore =D

Anyway, yes South Carolina is definately a red state, I had one congressman give me an appointment to both the USNA and USMMA -- but it's really great knowing I have three nominations to the USMMA. Do you suppose my chances would be pretty good with -three- nominations? Or am I just as equally likely as someone with -one- nomination?

I also found out that of South Carolina's 6 geographical slots, 4 were given appointments last year. That's a whole two slots wasted for my fine state. And what did those four do with those appointments, you ask? They went to the Citadel! ... WHY?! They would give up a FEDERAL SERVICE ACADEMY for the -Citadel-? ... Don't get me wrong, fellas, the Citadel is a darn fine school, but if -I- was appointed to a Federal Service Academy, I would snatch that up in a New York Minute (hah, pun) ...

I know we're all waitin' to hear about who gets appointed and all that -- but hey I've got some good ol' fun questions.

... I heard you USMMA guys got an arcade up there =D ... What's it like?
And a bowling alley? That's awesome... But is that all you all do on the weekends up there?

I know down here in South Carolina it's a big deal if it gets below 30 degrees... So I don't know how I'm gonna cope with -10bazillion windchill colddeath.

What's life really like up there?

Again, good luck to all... I know I come home from school and ask mom everyday if the mail had come yet, I bet everyone else is doing about the same =D

KP is a unique place, you won't see the arcade or the bowling alley for quite some time when you get here though. As a plebe there is a pretty big suck factor, and you will find out all about it. Just try to focus on whats important and don't give up. The best thing about KP is not the arcade or bowling alley but its proximity to NYC, a town you will learn to love and hate. By christmas you will be able to get out of here some times and will most likely go to the city and I can assure you that you will have a good time. Weather sucks, cannot say anything else about that. Make sure that you are ready physically, and try to have a good time before you go. See your family and friends as much as possible. Take calc if you can. email me if you have any more specific questions.

Woohoo!!!! just got my USMMA Appointment yesterday!!!!! I'm so excited. Now Im just waitng to hear back if I got the ROTC scholarship to Purdue, but I'm pretty sure I'll be goin to KP next year.

jamz.....correct me if im wrong....but I dont think having more than 1 nomination will improve your chances at any service academy. having the nomination just gets your application looked at.

USMMA2009 --

I wasn't trying to be a braggart or anything, If I was coming across as one -- my bad. =D

I really don't know if 3 noms is better than 1 or not... it sounds better, though, doesn't it? Heh... Does anyone know like, for a fact?

And hey USMMA2009-- congrats on your appointment! =)
I'm just waiting on ANY news.. -any- news would be better than no news at all. But hopefully it's good news... I wanna represent my state at a Federal Academy.

no worries....you should prolly hear back within the next week or two. If your really anxous, just call KP and ask about your application status. btw i didnt mean to imply you were bragging or anything....i just didnt think it made a difference if had more than 1 (which saying 3 does sound good :P) good luck

Found out I'm the number one alternate for USMMA for my state.... so the waiting game continues for me until the accept and decline process on the May 1st deadline happens.

Im really torn between USMMA and ROTC at Purdue (i got the scholarship but need to switch it to Purdue) On one hand, KP will be really worth it in the end, but plebe year is really gonna suck. On the other hand, I can have a normal college life and still do some of the regimental and military training through ROTC. Basically, I want to know how badly plebe year really is. Id appreciate if anyone can post any of their own expiriences or opinions.

I got into The Citadel and wanted to go there so bad but I couldn't afford it. Charleston is an awesome city but it's quite humid and smells from the paper mills. I have an older brother there in his senior year. It's a great school, just a little...ok everyone's crazy. Now I'm waiting for an appointment to WP!

I received a letter from the MMA yesterday, I was made an alternate candidate, I guess I should have sent my last SAT Scores: 660V, 660M. But that's alright. I did like KP especially that it's in NY, but I am happy with my choice: USCGA. Go Bears! Good Luck to everyone!

I think I'm going with KP...I was thinking about going Naval Academy Foundation, but KP is just to good to give up. Anyone going to open house next Monday?

Does anyone know how it is determined what sea year split you are in? My sister is getting married next year and my family is hounding me for dates and it is drving me crazy.

no its all random...you prolly have to wait until the end of freshman year until you find out

its not random, it is based on what sports/clubs you are in. If you are a star athelete or have a really legitimate reason for needing a split then you will get what you want, but other people just put what they want and hope they get it. And it is decided in the middle of your first term, as is your major.

ty for the correction...i was just basing my answer on what i heard from the mid that i visited with. You're are absolutley right about the athletics part...I wasn't thinking about that, and i didnt realize that they try to get you what split you want

Thanks for the answers.....thats basically what the shipboard dept. said at open house.

How was open house? can anyone give me a mini brief? I couldn't go because of baseball, but I was wondering what happened.

Open house was really good.....it was my first visit to KP and really confirmed my choice. We stared with a briefing from admissions, the dean and the vice admiral......that was mostly the standard stuff, just facts about the school and the whole make sure this is the kind of enviorment you want to go to school in speech. Then we went to the gym and they had all kind of tables set up so you could talk to different depts., clubs and sports. Then we got split up from our parnets...they had lunch with the staff and had a Q&A sessions. We went to lunch in Delano hall with the mids, the food was ok, I can live with...then we had like a free session with mids to talk about anything, it lasted for about an two hours it was really good to hear mids point of views on things about life at the academy, that was followed by tours of the campus, which was amazing. It was a experience, I can't wait tell july.

Here is a question for you, did any of the mids or anyone ever talk about Company Assignments? I put down possibly continuing band in college, but I do not want to continue anymore, no band company. They talk about a request like to not be in band, I don't care if I am in first, second, third, or fourth I just don't want to be in band if I go.
