I'm a sophomore and thinking about volunteering in a lab next summer...I live near the UT health science center, so that would be the ideal place to start, but I've got no idea how to approach them and ask if I could hang around and learn lab techniques or something. I know several of you have experience in this area, so any assistance whatsoever on who to talk to or what to say would be greatly appreciated.

I'd email them in addition to tons of other people...just express your interest and willingness to volunteer and learn, perhaps offer to send your resume. go onto their websites and do a bit of reading about the types of stuff their studying and mention it in ur email to make them a bit more personal. i emailed over 60 professors and got about 5 positive responses, only 1 of which being really worthwhile....so dont expect to get something from a single try and be patient. gluck!

you've already checked to see if they have enrichment/research programs at that university, yes? Sometimes these things are nestled deep in the crevices of a specific department's website or located on an affiliated research center's yadeedah.

Thanks :) Subicalibo - what did you say to the profs who you turned down? Just not respond or what?

np, something along the lines of...thanks for responding but i've found something else...they understand

they send you hate mail if you don't respond and if you turn them down, they blacklist you from colleges.

...if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all...

i find what you just said to me not nice, so why did you say it?

why do you bother arguing a losing arguement; i'm not gonna argue here on CC; this is my last post regarding this matter on this thread

okay buddy, i like how you are arguing with me over a joke post i made. i guess you never heard of sarcasm but i can teach you if you'd really like.
