I'm a rising junior in high school, and I'm very interested in contacting the head of a certain school's classical studies department and/or english department (Specifically intersted in American and English Literature) . I have a few questions for both of them, as I am interested in majoring in either of the subjects. However, I'm wondering if since I'm still considered to be a bit young, if this sort of gesture is odd. I'm planning on scheduling an interview with the school next summer/toward the end of 11th grade, as well, but I have a few questions for the professors that I feel would be best addressed prior to that time. Should I contact the head of the humanities department, directly? Should I wait until my interview date is a little closer, before I contact them? Or, should I simply wait to ask the questions to the interviewer? (preferably on campus interview) I feel like, since the interviewer will probably not be head of the humanities department, it is best that I contact a professor directly, and maybe explain my correspondence with the professor during the interview?

Bump-bump…

If the questions you want to ask specifically pertain to the professors, then I would go ahead and ask the professors now/during the school year before the interview; you did say you wanted those questions to be addressed before then. If they’re general questions, then the head of the department may be alright to ask.
