How loose is the essay word requirements, when they say "approximately" 500, is 540 too much?

I went 200 words over.

i think 550 is just enough to go above…200!!! really? mine was approx 500…had to remove a lot of words :(

On the admissions blog Julie said that they don’t count words, but if it’s obviously a lot over then they’ll be annoyed that you didn’t follow directions (obviously I’m paraphrasing), so I don’t think 40 words over wouldn’t be a big deal

^ down to 29 over now, thanks for advice!

No problem :)

I feel bad because both of my essay were under the limit. lol

I made both of my essays exactly 500 and 250 words respectively. They were the exact amount

my essays were exactly the word limit

My long essay was 550

My short essay was 250

My additional statement was 629

I think you’re fine, they had said ‘no more’ than 500 words then I’d be worried.

Long essay was 555, short essay was 274, and optional was 261. Loose guidelines I think

That might be a problem lol

Got my long down to 579 Short to 270 and Additional to 277

They can read it or they can choose not to, I am homeschooled so I felt obligated to thoroughly explain how it has effected me as a person and a prospective college student. I’ve also had some unique experinces that I felt needed my explanation. -shrug-
