apps. received.

i know ive posted this before,
but i just checked my andover website and its said it received everything except for the english rec. ive sent it out more than a week ago....
the last update was yesterday and they said they still dont have it. i dont know what to do :l
if all school are missing it, wouldnt they inform/call me?

andover isn't due until the end of the month

true. but it got my personal rec. which i sent out on tuesday...
but it doesnt say it got the english rec i sent more than a week ago.
exeter says it didnt either.

question: on the "my andover" thing where you can read the status of your app like what's missing and stuff, will you also be able o read your admission descision on there on march 10??

SPS hasn't sent me any acknowledgement yet, though I sent off the app a couple of days before the deadline on the 15th. Should I be worried?

go to my documents

no you shouldnt be worried... i sent all of my choate (recs and stuff) a week before the deadline. and i sent my online app on the 9th. they got the app, of course, but they have NOTHING else. i got freaked too, but I was informed they still havent opened more than a dozen mailboxes. I believe SPS is in the same problem.

Oh, good. I'm actually still kind of worried because I sent off my app near MLK Jr. day, so I'm not completely sure if they got there by the 15th...

I'm not aware of any exceptions to this, but the deadline dates are postmark dates.

Plus, for the schools that set January 15 as their deadline, the MLK Holiday this year changes that and all the schools (again, I'm aware of no exceptions to this) will accept applications postmarked Jan. 16.

After that, you're in peril. At this point...in the evening of January 31...I will assume nobody is relying on this being a universal truth even if I am saying that it seems to be universal.

Anyway, if the application components required from you are postmarked by the deadline (as it may be extended by a weekend or federal holiday), you're going to be fine even if the other materials arrive later (and even if they're postmarked later). They're not going to get all anal about a deadline date that you met and some third person dropped the ball with.

In fact, if pieces of the application from you are postmarked a day or two late -- which I don't advise experimenting with -- it's unlikely that someone who opens mail will compare postmarks and toss your item into the trash while allowing other application materials in the same batch of mail that are postmarked a day or two earlier.

As a rule, they actually want to learn all they can about you. Tossing out information makes their job tougher. And the application process is the vehicle for the school to get to know you, not measure how you master all the hoop jumping. They're pretty forgiving about that stuff...but -- still -- it's much easier to sleep at night knowing that you haven't used up any favors prior to the AdCom sitting down and looking through your file. I don't think they really care so much, but why put yourself through that torment?

But if you are choosing between "send in the graded paper a day late" or "I guess I missed the deadline so I'm screwed" -- ALWAYS opt for "send in the graded paper" because, practically speaking, that day or two-long hiatus will not be the factor that makes the difference in the AdCom's decision while the missing graded paper on March 3 probably will.

I think the SPS deadline required the school to have it by Jan. 16th, and I sent it out on the 13th (Saturday) I think. Monday was MLK JR. day. Oh well, there's really nothing I can do about it now so I might as well stop worrying. :)

They just want the postmark. And the 16th is the one. I know. I asked. Rest well and good luck.

Great! Thanks.

does anyone know the answer to my question?

From the web site of a TSAO member school: "The ten schools listed above will mail admission decision letters on March 10 to all applicants whose admission files are completed by January 15. The letter will be your official notification of the decision. By agreement, the ten schools will not fax, email or give decisions on the telephone at that time. However, if you have not received your admission decision letter by March 15, you are invited to call, fax or email to learn of your decision."

It doesn't say they won't post the information on the web!

I can't tell from the Andover site, but this message appears on a similar site for Lawrenceville (also a TSAO member): "Decisions will be available after
03/10/2007 10:00 AM"

Other schools, such as Groton, have let it be known that they will post decisions on the student's web portal page for the school. Considering that Lawrenceville doesn't seem to feel the TSAO agreement prevents it from web announcements, you can assume that Andover will do likewise.

Then again, the fact that Andover is silent might indicate the exact opposite.

The Exeter on-line status page just gives the date of the student interview and the forms and papers received. There's no link or mention of a place to visit to see their decision. They may take the view that such announcements run counter to the TSAO agreement or they may not want to be bothered with the added hassle (and perhaps security/privacy concerns) of posting the information on these "status check" sites.

Or maybe they just haven't gotten around to promoting the web notification service.

Bottom line: I think you're going to have to take "I don't know" as my answer to your question...but when you call the Andover Admission Office, please let us know what they say!

In an e-mail from another TSAO member confirming the application is complete (still no mention of web pages!):

Admissions Decision Letters

The Ten Schools (listed below) will mail admission decision letters on Saturday, March 10, 2007. If you have not received your decision letter by March 15, you are invited to call, FAX or e-mail to learn of your decision. Agreed to by the Directors of Admission at: Choate Rosemary Hall, Deerfield Academy, Hill School, Hotchkiss School, Lawrenceville School, Loomis Chaffee School, Phillips Academy, Phillips Exeter Academy, St. Paul's School, Taft School. Decisions will not be delivered via FAX, e-mail or phone until March 15.

That is what TSAO says, but I believe a lot of the schools on this list will email their decision, especially to international applicants

For some reason, whenever there's a thread that starts talking about decisions and when they come out, I started googling phrases like 'march decisions' and 'tell me now' and 'prep school decisions'. I don't know, maybe I'm subconciously trying to find the secret list schools keep on the Internet that tells whether you get accepted. :p

...the secret list...
