Appyling starts soon, in need of help...chances for pharmacy program?

hey guys,

I have a horrible GPA, I really did not transition well from middle school to high school. I picked it up though junior year, and I hope admissions see that.

Overall: 2.625

Freshmen: 2.4
Sophomore: 1.8
Junior: 3.2
Senior: 3.5

My SAT is decent enough

Overall: 1930

Math: 640
Reading: 540
Writing: 750

Community Services

Volunteered at Thomas Jefferson Hospital - 4 weeks
Community Service over in Japan to help earthquake victims
Community Service over in Haiti to help tsunami victims
Church mission trip to help rebuild houses in Richmond, Virginia

Junior Varsity Soccer for 1 year
Varsity Soccer for 3 years
1 year captain

The main colleges that offer the 0-6 pharmacy programs that I am looking into are

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
University of the Sciences - Philadelphia

Do i have anything to worry about? I know Mass accepts a lot of students, but I have no idea at this point. I researched a lot, and due to my low gpa, but decent SAT, I don't know what I should do to improve.

***I did get a bunch of scholorships to schools for soccer. My travel soccer team is ranked 2nd in New Jersey, so I got scholorships to Ohio State, NYU, Penn State, UConn, GW and the rest are small schools. However, my main goal is to be a pharmacsit, not a major league soccer player.

The average SAT at MCPHS is a 1635 for 2010 freshmen. The average GPA is a 3.4.

In my eyes, you’re likely in. The school is pretty easy to get into, however; much harder to stay in. That’s why the admissions accepts nearly 80% of their applicants because they know most will transfer or fail out.

MCPHS is a good school, costs are pretty high, but even with your GPA, you’ll be getting a scholorship since you scored 300 points higher on the SAT than the average student.

Good luck

Do you know any stats specifically for students who are going into the pharmD program? The average of 1635 is probably all the majors, like dental, pharmacuetical sciences, nutrition, nursing, etc.

But i’m pretty sure the SAT for freshmen that are entering are much higher no??

Well on collegeboard,

11% of students that are attending had a high school gpa of 2.5-2.99

and 51% of the whole student body is undergoing the pharm.D program.

The SAT may be a little higher, like 1700-1750 average, but I doubt it. MCPHS accepts anyone since they want money. They’re desire to keep their facilities top notch, and the dorms are very nice (pricy though). They have state-of-the-art science buildings, lab equipment, a new furnished sonar for pre-med, and lots of other high-tech gear.

are you currently a pharmacy student at MCPHS, survivorman?

Yes, 5th year student coming up this fall. Other than your GPA, you’ll be fine. I know freshmen that had similar GPA and a worse SAT score than you, and they got accepted. Don’t sweat it.
