April 10th, 2010 ACT Official Thread

Hey guys,

I don't know about you, but i'm actually pretty nervous for this one. I know that i will have more opportunities to retake it, but still. it's pretty nerve- racking.

I got a 27 composite last time with minimal studying, now i've done a prepbook by myself so we will see =/

How do you guys feel about this upcoming exam? in... 3 days!

What do you guys think? Is this test going to be easier than the December ACT, same level? harder?

How are you all feeling about this April 10th ACT, how much preparation have you all done?

Wow, it’s in three days? That’s nerve-wracking solely acknowledging that.

it’s going to be my first try for the act. lets hope the 2 weeks studying was worth it. Still got problems with the english part, as it is my second language.

Metokra - it is my second language as well… i managed to pull off a 28 on english last time i took it. so i was semi- pleased with that. we’ll see how it goes this time

This is also my first time taking the ACT. I am very, very nervous… By the way, what grades are you all in?

i’m a junior… they weren’t kidding when they said that this was going to be the hardest year.

I’m a junior as well.

Good Luck everyone!

Good luck to everyone taking the April 10th ACT as well. I’m also a first-time ACT taker, mainly because I was crushed by my pitiful excuse for an SAT I score. Studying for ACT 1 week as opposed to zero study for SAT, so hopefully this will yield a better result!

How is everyone else preparing? And the science section looks daunting (especially the physics, I haven’t even taken a physics course in hs yet as I elected to skip honors physics to go straight to AP senior year). Reading section looks like it’s going to be a time crunch too. Any tips from past ACT wizards or from any of you who prepared diligently for this exam? I’m flipping out…I can hardly complete my classwork on time this year, and now bombarded with standardized testing…it’s all just too much.

prattenis… thank you for the wishes. this is my second time taking the ACT after a 27 in december with minimal prep. the science section is in general daunting… the conversion chart for it is like 37/40 questions correct = low 30 or something like that… it’s pretty insane. you don’t really need to know actual science for the science section, although whatever knowledge you do have is helpful at times. Reading… i dont have much advice for you. just make sure you can skim the passages as fast as you can and still extract a meaning out of it. you have about 8.5 minutes per passage +question on reading if you want to finish on time.

Anyway, i kno how ur feeling, this time of the year sucks. our 3rd marking period is just ending this week and it’s like all my teachers are loading me up with work.

sucks in general. but good luck to you… just try to take a practice test under timed circumstances and see how you do. remember, you always have more opportunities to take the ACT up until like october of your senior year

I’m not too fond of the math section.

the problem with the math section is… the first 30 questions or so are fine… then out of no where they start getting progressively harder. which is kind of annoying

Didn’t study for the SAT when I took it in March and I got a 2050. Not studying for this and hoping for a 32 or 33. If I’m not satisfied I’ll do some prep this summer and take it next fall

I’ll probably take it again in September as well.

It’s unfortunate that the level of difficulty varies as opposed to becoming progressively harder.

got a 2150 on the sat, but today i took a practice ACT test and scored a 35!! if i could get 2 more question right in the english section i would have a 36, which is amazing especially considering i doubted i could get above a 31 a month ago. I don’t even see how the ACT compares to the SAT, the ACT i wayyyyy easier. I really want to do well on the ACT so i don’t have to take both tests again.

I got 32 in Feb. ACT test, 2090 in SAT this March…
I felt that 32 is just because I was lucky, and my score is going down right now. I am so nervous about getting a lower score than the last one.
For me, SAT vocabulary is killing me (620), but ACT reading and science didn’t do much good either.

^^I think that’s subjective.

I would agree though if it weren’t for the math section.

OMG
same here -- I got 32 in the March ACT (State-mandated one)
2120 in SAT w/ 620 reading and SAT vocab’s killing me too…
i got 31 in reading and 28(!!!) on science, TT i need to get a 34 in this one…

I took my first ACT in February and scored a 33. I’m hoping for a 34-35 on this one, but I have a suspicion that my score will go down instead…
