April 1st for Shepherd School

I finally broke down and called Rice admissions about Shepherd School notifications. Son and I are sick of checking the derned status page several times a day.

The admissions person said that, as we guessed, all Rice undergrad notifications were made on March 23rd, UNLESS you applied to the Shepherd School.

Those notifications will definitely not come out until April 1st, she said. Notifications will come by email AND snail mail.

Good luck to all! Come on April 1st!

OOOOHHHH MAN! Do they figure that artists need to suffer for their art or what? Well, at least maybe this will alleviate some of the insanity - although we are in such a habit of checking the status every few hours, it may be hard to break that habit.

I hear ya, sista!

Oh my gosh! Email arrived in son’s inbox at 6:07pm. Accpeted!!!

I guess that admissions lady wasn’t exactly being truthful this morning, the little trickster! She swore to me that no notifications would be sent until April 1st, period!

Congratulations!!!

Congrats again, Simple life. Is Rice his top choice right now? I know the Shepard school is highly ranked. He must be pretty excited.

awesome. Congrats!

I guess April 1st was the official deadline. Anything early is luck!

SimpleLife, congratulations - I tried to PM you but you don’t have it turned on. DD is a voice student at Rice. What studio was he admitted to?

BooHoo for my Son - Denied. Well, we knew it was a long shot. 5 audition days filled with lots of awesome horn players and only maybe 3-ish would be chosen. Oh well, looking forward to study with J.D.Shaw at Frost School of Music U. Miami, or Jacek Muzyk in Buffalo (where there is much more frost than at Frost). Way to go SimpleLife & Son!

is it true that Shepherd only admits 12% of applicants to the music school??

Congrats to all!!! Well done! The Shepherd School is tremendous.

Awww… ABBeachMom, I’m sorry your son got denied! Rats. Well, it sounds like he’s got some great other choices. Good luck to him, and congrats on a job well done. It’s no easy feat for these kids, auditioning all over the country for prime slots at all these fine music schools. I’m proud of all of them!

cpq1xtbu, you’re right–my son is very, very excited. Shepherd is very highly ranked and very selective, as is the rest of Rice. He’s just thrilled. However, there is that little issue of money. As cheap as Rice’s ivy-like education is, for what you get, it’s still more than I can afford–even given his nice scholarships. He’s going to have a rough time choosing his college. He has free-rides at a few choice colleges, though not as “choice” as Rice! Is the massive debt worth it? I just don’t know. We’ll see…

Singersmom07, I would love to hear from you! I’m going to PM you now and add you to my contacts.

Oh, and I meant to say … congrats, steff! Good for you!
