April 2011 ACT Math Discussion

f(x-3)+1 is 3 units right and 1 unit up

For the circle center/radius question the equation was (x-8)^2 + y^2 = 15, so the center would be (8, 0) with radius 15?

thought it was square root of 15?

radius would be the square root of 15, and center is (8,0)

Circle equation:
(X-x)^2+(Y-y)^2=r^2
So it was (8,0) sqrt(15)

what about the triangle inequality questions? Can someone tell me the answers?

Was that f(x)/g(x) question right pi/3 and up 1 unit?

For the triangle on the graph…did everyone get root16 which simplifies to 4. then that was over 6 so it was 2/3?

What was the answer for question 4 (I think) it showed 2 similar triangles and asked for the hypotenuse?

firesoul17, i put that oo.

What about the p < k one?

The answer to the question was 10

Q 4 about the hypotenuse

@Stanford It was similar triangles so just use proportions

@firesoul Wasn’t it right pi/4?

@sbl0323 yeah right pi/4

the similar triangles one was 10

Yeah that’s what I did I got 10 (I think).

115° or 135°?

@obscure i said 10.

@timmy It was 65 degrees.

What was the answer to the question with 2 lines and cut by a transversal and asked for the sum of 1 and 2. I got 220.
