@144444 Maybe you should request a rescore on you latest writing test.
I received 35C and 34 on writing essay. Is it ok or do I need to retake it. My subscores are 36S, 35R, 36W, 34M.
I am concerned about math.
@ringer123 why are you asking a question that you very well already know the answer to…
I will retake it. I am very upset about Math score.
If you retake the ACT after getting those scores, I guarantee you that no school that doesn’t accept score choice will accept you. They’re just gonna think you’re some test taking drone that has nothing else to offer. Cmon dude you have a 35…go do something better with your life…
Hey guys, I think he/she is just having fun with us.
Has anyone else not gotten their score? Was this not your first time? Ive taken it once and was thinking maybe they were looking closely at my answers or something? Everyone else I know at that test center got their scores back already a week or two ago
I’ve also yet to receive my scores and I know of at least one other person from my testing center who got his results back already. I also have previously taken the test (March 2016). I sent ACT a message asking why this happened and basically they told me that it’s common and I need to just wait it out and the scores will be out soon enough.
Has anyone received their scores today? Especially the international test takers?
I checked this morning but now they were just posted. I didn’t get what I wanted. Really needed a 30+ and got a 29 comp. This sucks how everytime I take the ACT one section brings down everything.
29C
30E
33M
24R
29S
Cant believe my reading is so low. I got a 32 last time on reading but a 24 on science. Plus my scores were delayed so now I dont know if I should take it again or not
My D is still waiting for her scores. Everyone she knows has gotten them including people at same testing site in same room. ACT says wait. It happens. Still scoring tests. Scores will appear.
It would be nice if everyone got their scores back prior to the June Registration deadline
@zxcvbnm1216 Sorry. That’s very frustrating! Would the list @CATDECAL provided of over a hundred colleges that superscore the ACT help you any? p. 21 #312
( Every time I write “superscore” the autocorrect changes it to “superstore” lol)
I’m curious about the comment that writing doesn’t matter as long as ELA is above 30. Colleges will see that a person got a 36 in English and a 24 in writing for an ELA of 30. That probably looks different to them than someone who got a 30 in English and a 30 in writing. Some schools would probably prefer the first scenario and some would prefer the second. Same with STEM - they see the sub scores and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to average the two scores. Just wondering why those ELA and STEM scores are even calculated. Is it just marketing to parents?
@lkg4answers I made the comment about the 30 ELA. For most students looking for admittance to top universities a 30 ELA is very decent, however, of course the breakdown is also considered. The reason they give Stem and ELA percentiles is because there are different benchmarks. For instance, 22 is the math benchmark and 23 the science, however, 26 is the benchmark for success in engineering and 25 ELA is the benchmark for success in political science. I don’t think the sub-composites should be any worry though as 82% of students in the country don’t reach them. That’s why if you’re 5 composites over the 25 ELA mark you’re in good shape.
I got a 36 composite but a 24 essay that dropped my ela subscore to 31… is there any point in retaking because of my essay score? how much weight do colleges put on the essay?
Thoughts on retaking? Son took in April first time as Sophomore 35C (36M 36E 36S 30R) and got a 22 writing…ELA 29 STEM 36…some are advising not to retake…just worried…is a stem kid (MIT and Caltech top choices)…
wow @brazos21 – that’s great! You could request a rescore of the essay if you think that might help (costs $50).
His composite is very good-- only reason to retake is if he is interested in schools that superscore – and can bring the reading score up. He is young so you/he can think about it - has time but not necessary most likely.
@brazos21 I think he’s past the threshold for both those top schools. When it comes down to admission time I think that a lot more than standardized test scores will be a role, and I think he should get to sleep in one extra Saturday and not retake the exam. A 35 Composite is incredible especially as a Sophomore. There are kids who go to my school who study for an entire year just to break into the 30’s (myself included). If you guys are seriously worried about the writing score, I’d advise paying the $50 rescore essay as @CA1543 mentioned. Overall, you should be extremely happy of your sons score…the science section was the hardest thing most of us kids have ever seen.
I sent in the request to rescore the essay the day we got it…at this point I think that is all we will do. MIT doesn’t even require the essay so I assume they don’t even look at the score. It’s just frustrating because there is no anecdotal evidence on how these essay scores are being used…and thank you…we are very happy for him.
