@brazos21 No problem! Honestly, I remember on my tour of UVA them saying they use the essay score to determine if certain students are eligible to skip freshman writing seminars. It may just be something the schools use for placement, however, as you probably know uVa isn’t at the caliber of MIT and Cal Tech but I’d still assume it isn’t a primary factor and is more for placement purposes.
I got a 35 for my composite score but a 30 for my W. It seems like the W score is lower for everyone. But, apparently 30 is a 98th percentile. Does anyone know what domain score is needed for scores above 30? (my domain score was 11,11,10,11).
@brazos21 how did you send in the request for the rescore? I also did poorly on writing (24 vs 36 composite) and do you know the deadline?
Son (Junior) took the April ACT first time. 35C (35E 33M 36R 35S) no writing score yet. STEM kid strong in math but did not do very well in the ACT. Should he retake it to improve the math score? Just worried as he does not have much time.
jules15 I got 34W with 12 11 11 11 subscores for writing rubric. I am retaking in June. My composite is 35 with 34 in Math. I should have scored higher in Math.
My daughter got 36C and writing 18 bringing her ELA to 30. Don’t know what to do at this point. We will submit for rescore. She is a sophomore so has time for retaking next year but don’t know if that’s the best thing.
So I got a 32W with all 10 subscores… what to do in order to raise it?
BTW I went in cold for the writing section and just started writing an AP Lang style essay. Teacher told me I’m a good writer so I didn’t feel the need to practice… but any advice?
how do you ask for a rescore sos :((
You can ask ACT to hand-score your multiple-choice responses and/or rescore your writing test essay. Requests for hand-scoring must be made in writing within three months of receiving your scores. Submit your request in writing to:
ACT Student Services
P.O. Box 414
Iowa City, IA 52243-0414
USA
Include your name as given at the time of testing, address and date of birth, plus ACT ID, test date (month and year), and test location from your score report. Enclose a check payable to ACT Student Services for the applicable fee:
$50.00 multiple-choice tests
$50.00 writing test essay
$100.00 both the multiple-choice tests and writing test essay
ACT will inform you by letter of the results of the hand-scoring about three to five weeks after receiving your request. The letter will inform you whether the scores originally reported have been confirmed or not. If a scoring error is discovered, your scores will be changed and corrected reports will be released to you and all previous score recipients at no charge. In addition, your hand-scoring fee will be refunded.

@bsdsj22 did you really get a 32 with all 10,10,10,10 sub scores? Because I got subscores of 10,10,10 and 09, and I got a 28…
My son got a 29W with 10s in all domains.
Son is being advised to take ACT again in June…35C (36M, 36E, 36S, 30R, 22W)…he is a sophomore and has dreams of MIT, Caltech, Stanford, etc. Apparently, based on conversations with certain admissions offices, some say that the low writing score will indeed diminish the high composite, some say it doesn’t matter. We have requested a rescoring and should know before the next test date. He didn’t study for the essay section on the first sitting, so he can at least focus on this section and strategy. Of course, he runs the risk of scoring lower on the other sections. Uhgggg!
Anyone know where to the curve from the TIR? It’s not on crackACT, but ACT quantum already has the math section up.
@bsdsj22 Was this the April test?? My daughter got all 10s and scored a 29!
yes -1=36 Math, -1 English= 36, -1=35 Reading, -1=36 Science (overall extremely generous)
Not trying to be rude but at least half of you are liars…haha. There’s no way this many people got 35’s and 36’s on one testing date and happened to be CC members.
@DryMango The people on this forum are the people that take college admissions the most seriously. It’s not a coincidence that a lot of CC members got high scores, the fact that they are members of this website is arguably the cause.
btsrun - I’m waiting for my Sept ACT results. Lots of people got theirs scores today, but mine line yours still says It just says view/print ticket, make changes to your registration, and when will my scores be ready… How long did you have to wait? Would love to hear from you thx!
