discuss April Reading Test questions..............

fiction???

I don’t even want to think about this section,it ruined my day :(

I failed… I’ll be lucky if i get a 24…

I hope I did well in this section. This section was really just time management and citing the gist of the essay’s.

I will go over some answers I remember.

For the jazz singer, I put the blues was the foundation of his career, or something to that extent.
The purists mood was hostile, as in they initially viewed his performance negatively.

I’m a little hazy here but I remember one answer being the saxophone player did not come put to play with him.

His inspiration came from when he tilted his head. (I interpreted it literally)

He played the song slower than it was intended.

The second act was the last act.

She also remembered it “as a rollercoaster”. This was directly from the text.

The essay about urban sprawl was persuasive.
One answer was “the roads became strip malls”, or something similarly worded.
Detached = set apart
The quotation that he most supported came towards the end of the paragraph, near line 76, and said something to the degree that we needed better management.
Another one stated that large retailers took up more space than most downtowns.

Snowflakes were a combination of snow crystals.
Snowflakes could not pick up pollutants in the snow.

For the essay on flowers, which I enjoyed, the answers were

the first tour guide viewed her condescendingly

she learned to appreciate the book over the span of several months.

(Wasn’t sure on this one) I put she didn’t ever find the specific name of the flower during her hike.

The reason the binding of the book was worn out was due to her constant use of it.

The book itself was described as emphasizing the “particulars”, so it was more specific. ( I think this refers to a question)

Feel free to dispute of these; I have compared these with other people, but discussion itself is beneficial.

i agree with all yours; they were stated in the reading

wow. excellent post!
oh for the blues question, did the foundation answer include the word “heavenly” or not?

not heavenly because when reading, it said his ear was faced down, as in foundation, and the up, heavenly, was the orginality

no heavenly was a different answer choice but for the 2nd set one I said it was the final except on Sunday because it opened saying there had already been two and then the guy was announced.

i thought it said it was the end of the second set that the guy was announced and thus 2nd is the final

right so they had the two sets, and then he came up on stage to do his song…i think

That is how I interpreted it. However, the answer wasn’t as specific as some.

the only one i disagree with was the one about tiliting his head…it said in the text that he went over to the other guitar players or w/e and talked to them before he started playing im almost 90% sure but you never know…

no so then wouldnt the second set be the middle…the first…the second…and then guy

You are referring to a different question. Both answers are correct he does speak to the two other band members first. (I’ll add that to the list)

The middle act is plausible. I only remember what I put.

were the purist arrogant or something or is that the same as the hostile answer and i believe the book was her companion for years said so in the flower passage

Yes, I believe arrogant is the correct answer.

The other question refers to the passage of time from when she initially did not understand the guide to when she did. In the essay she than says “next summer”. Thus, Next summer would imply the passage of months not years.

i think it said directly in the passage that the book was her companion for “years.” (unless we’re talking about another question)

oh and yes the purists were arrogant … i think the answer choice said “ignorant” and another word

That is incorrect. I can promise you in the passage it says “this book became my companion over the next few years.” The exact wording in the question. I spent a while finding the answer because I assumed it was months, too, before I double checked.
