This sort of thing happens every year – unfortunately. Someone at a school, (usually elite/selective, which is why it makes the news) pushes the wrong button and sends the wrong message to the wrong recipients. Heartbreak follows. Just the reality of online communication…
Yup-- this happens every year. In this case it was a graduate program (Public health/Mailman) and they corrected it within an hour. Still stings when you get the “you are in” followed by “oops, no you’re not”.
That’s really bad. Many students will be dreaming for the acceptance notice and once they get one, they’ll be very happy. If they recall within an hour, that’ll be really a heart breaking moment for the students.
This always burns me up, because it’s pretty much the one thing that ABSOLUTELY CANNOT HAPPEN if you are running an admissions office. And yet, it happens somewhere every year.
The list is getting way to long. According to my search, some of the schools who sent acceptances to students they meant to reject:
1995 Cornell
2002 UC Davis
2006 Georgia
UC Berkley, Law School
2007 UNC Chapel Hill
2008 Northeastern, School of Management

2011 Delaware
