April Visit

Is there an visit sometime in April for people who have been admitted into Brown? For some reason or another, I faintly remember such an event. However, I cannot find it on the site nor on the forum. Maybe I’m just delusional. If not, anyone have the dates? (Trying to plan my Spring Break ALREADY!)

"A Day on College Hill" -- April 18-19

Thanks! Is it mostly for people who are deciding which college they want to attend or do many ED students go as well?

well it's meant for students who are deciding but i'm under the impression that most ED kids go as well.

A lot of ED kids were there last year, when I went.

ILoveBrown, would you say it is a worthwhile experience since it is mainly for RD kids? It's a lot of money to fly to Brown. By the way, are parents supposed to come?

I was accepted ED this year and I am definitely going. This will be my only opportunity to visit Brown before next fall so I think it's definitely worth going to. Considering that you'll get to meet so many of your future classmates, get to see the campus, sit in on classes, etc, I think you should really go.

Yeah I'm going too. I was told that there is a free train ride to Providence. I don't know where it starts or the precise details, but only that this "Brown Train" is several reserved Amtrack cars.

the train ride is most definitely not free! i rode the "Brown Train" to ADOCH last year, it started in maryland somewhere and ends in providence, Brown just reserves the last three train cars on a regional train. you still have to buy your own ticket, and the price depends on where you get on the train (it was like $65 from nyc). it was definitely great way to meet a lot of people, since basically everyone walks around introducing themselves for the whole of the train ride.

is april 18th and 19th in the middle of the week? if so how do they expect people to get out of school? am i looking at the wrong calendar?

i know someone said something about parents coming along for ADOCH. i've already been to the campus twice, and got in ED, but my dad has never seen the campus in person and i think it would be cool since he will be paying $40,000+ over the next few years. think i should send/bring him along?

I don't know why I was told it's free then.

do not bring parents to ADOCH (at least it seems like that's the case, I wouldn't know, waitlisters weren't invited). In mid october we have this thing called "Parents Weekend". I recommend waiting untill then.

Yeah, it's in the middle of the week. It's obnoxious to have to miss school, but it's definitely worth it, because then you get to sit in on Brown classes. I ended up taking a class with a prof whose class I sat in on during ADOCH because I thought she was so awesome (and she's my advisor).

Yeah, definitely don't bring parents. They can wait until October.
