Are AP tests important in the admissions process?

yes, why would they not be? Would it be fair for you to take AP tests and suffer while other take honor/regular classes?

AP tests, not classes
Anyway my school offers only 5 AP classes and no one ever takes AP tests

most schools dont even want you to send u the scores until AFTER you are admitted... some schools however, do ask you for the scores (without officially sending them) on the application

I think the way it can hurt is if you got an A in the class and then get a 2 on the exam. That shows that your class/school is really easy and mayve they would look at your other grades with a grain of salt.

so why should i take the test, if i don't really care about placement

because they can give you credits (save money) and it looks good if you ace the hell out of them

i'll probably just attend KU, and since i have a 35 act and 4.0 i'll probably get a full tuition waiver

The number one thing is difficulty of curriculum, then gpa/rank and then standardized test scores. The SAT I counts most, and then the SAT II's. After you qualify on academics, then they care about EC's, essays and recommendations. Large schools like KU are more numbers driven.

Taking AP classes is very important, but the exam scores don't count very much at all. I don't think there is any school that requires you to submit the AP report.
