It seems that almost everyone who posts a new thread on CC about their chances of USNA begin with "...I have five AP classes..." Meanwhile i have none! As a junior, i have 3 A level classes, but no AP's. I know that i should push myself to get some next year, but as of now, does that reflect badly? does anyone know anyone who is currently in USNA or has recived a nomination who did not have an outstanding number of AP's? thanks!

the admissions office will look at the rigor of your HS program, in the context of what is offered at your school. If your school offers no AP classes, then not having any will be understandable. However, on the flip side, if your school offers many AP classes and you have opted for art and ceramics, you are going to out of the competetive pool.

I have to ask, that if your school offers AP classes, is there a reason why you have not taken them?

The final thing to keep in mind is the observation you have already made- that most candidates for the USNA will have several AP classes under their belts...and as many as 1/3 of the incoming class will have even more than that, including a PG year or a year or 2 of college behind them.....this is who you will be competing against for one of those 1240 admission slots!

Choose wisely young grasshopper! Best of Luck!
