Hey everybody,

It's that time of year again--you show up to class and half of the people are gone. The hallways are quiet and nobody's allowed to eat near the gyms for two weeks.

Since APs are on everybody's (this is a generalization) minds, I had a couple of questions I was hoping you guys could help me out with.

1) When should we send AP scores to Cornell?

2) Is anybody else not taking very many APs? This forum makes me feel like every rising freshman attending Cornell in the fall is taking 15 APs and getting credit for all of them. I'm only getting credit for BC and APUSH for sure. I'm pretty sure I'll get my government credit, but engineers don't get credit for statistics at all, and we need a 5 on the literature exam to skip a semester of FWS. That's MAYBE 4 classes. Is anybody else in this boat?

Thanks, and good luck with your APs!
watbirdsays

I’m in pretty much the same boat…

1 - I am guessing we can send them in anytime up until we enter college?
2 - I am taking four APs this year - not caring about two of them and now that you said Statistics isn’t taken… three now?

Say I have taken Physics B, Calc BC, Stats, Biology, English, APUSH, and World History…
As a upcoming freshman CS engineer, what things will count?

Alright, Calc BC and Physics are good…
English I need a 5 to skip one writing seminar?
No credit for statistics!? What if I double major with math and then minor in economics - will I get credit then?
I know World History does not get credit, but will my APUSH go towards anything?

For engineers, if you have a 4 in one of the English APs you don’t get out of a FWS but you get 3 credits of generic literature credit that you can count toward your liberal studies requirements.

Here are the details for engineering: [Cornell Engineering: Grades and Credit](http://www.engineering.cornell.edu/academics/undergraduate/curriculum/handbook/2010/grades_credits.cfm#CP_JUMP_11182)

Looks like APUSH will get you some history credit.

My S will have credit for biology (doesn’t get him out of anything, just some general biology credit), and he has a 4 on English lang, so he’ll get that lit credit. He’s hoping for credit for Chemistry, Physics and CS. Calc AB won’t get him anything, and he’s also taking English Lit but doesn’t expect to get the 5 needed to get out of a FWS. So, 3 first year courses that he’ll likely/hopefully get out of, plus a little miscellaneous credit.

Good information, mathmomvt.
Also, one can only have 18 total credits from AP courses, so pick and choose the best ones.

Are you sure about the 18 credits Supervisor? The only thing I see in the engineering guide says

but that sounds like it is talking about transferring credit for classes taking from other universities after you start your Cornell degree, not what you get before coming in.

Oh! Then, I have no idea…
You only need 120 to graduate, right?
I could potentially have like 40 entering, then… 0.-

for engineering it says you need 124-134 credits to graduate, and i think i can have up to 39 from AP =P

You guys are the worst. Thanks for not answering my question and showing off how many AP credits you’ll get.

I’m just kidding. But seriously, there’s no need for that.

Thanks for the information, mathmomvt!

Compared to other people, I’m barely taking any. I’ll have taken 7 total once high school is over.

I’ll get to skip a writing seminar, but I’ve gotten 4’s on my others so I want to know how that’ll transfer over to CAS… and also, what scores I’ll need on this year’s.

Does anyone at all know how Calc AB, US History, Gov, MicroEcon, and Enviro transfer as far as credits go? I really can’t find it anywhere and it’s saddening.

so… when it says you can’t use bio credit toward “majoring in biological sciences” does that just refer to the one specific biological science major or to majors having to do with the biological sciences?

You know, I realized that and then posted my “1 - …” and “2 - …” before the rest of my message. I know that a lot of threads have this going on so I tried to fix my post! Come on, I am not that bad. D:

I did also say “Just kidding.” Worry not. Plus, #2 was a “yes” or “no” question.

But can you find out for sure the answer to #1? Because “I am guessing” doesn’t really inspire confidence. D:
