No, it's not healthy. I only manage 3 hours of sleep a day, if that.

Freshman year:: none
Sophomore year:: World History (4)
Junior year:: French Language (3), English Language (5), Spanish Language (5), Spanish Literature (3), US History (3)
Senior year:: Human Geography, French Literature, English Literature, Macro/Micro Economics, European, Biology, U.S. Government, Comp. Government.

I would not recommend it to students who aren't willing to work like there's no tomorrow. These classes have sucked the the fun right out of my life---especially Biology which has a repuation as being the hardest class at my school. They have also wrecked my GPA. Moreover, I couldn't even begin working on my college apps until winter break because every day I had at least two tests, and if not that--- 5 quizzes, at the least.

If by some chance, whoever is reading this is the kind of person who can read a long Scientific American article in under 10 minutes and fully understand and retain the information---by all means, take as many AP classes as you want, because you will succeed. (Not that I can do this, but the valedictorian at my school certainly can!)

3 hrs of sleep? and i thought 6 was bad. but i sleep 10 hrs regularly, when there's no school, so that could be it.

i can relate to hard classes wrecking GPA. but at least we challenged ourselves.

I sleep 12 hours each day!!! hahahahha........so no wonder no school wants me. Q_Q

I agree with MZlover I had to quit my job recently with 5 AP's, its just hard to have any life with these classes and clubs.

And I think it'll be appreciated, in the admissions game, that you challenged yourself, allureNY86.

But I'm deeply, deeply worried by someone only getting 3 hours of sleep a night because of their AP classes. That's not impressive so much as its disheartening.

Well, I nap a lot in class because most of those APs are treated as an "independent study" time. I know in advance when I'll be held accountable for knowing certain information, so I plan ahead, waaaaaaay ahead.

Trust me, it's not as bad as it seems. Sleep is overrated.

Some people read much better (faster and with more complete comprehension) than others. I have heard of a lot of people who self-study a great variety of AP courses. They seem to have time to do the things they enjoy doing, and are active, curious people.

Personally, I wouldn't want my hours of sleep per night to go down as low as three on a consistent basis, but I can read a lot on a normal sleep schedule, and don't find studying for lots of APs at the same time so astounding. I'll see how it goes for my children as they get older--what's important to them as learning goals is what will set the schedule.

Geez, I have 4 hours of water polo per day and I'm completely booked until 7:00 every day. I take 4 APs and I have to finish all of my HW in 3 hours.

saxfreq ~ thanks. hopefully the fact that i tried pushing myself will overcome the fact that my GPA isn't perfect.
5 APs is sufficient. even a bit too much at times. i still work and do clubs, and i sleep as much as i can. this semester i'm starting to get 8 hrs per night. i just haven't been doing sports with the school team (i run on my own instead). but social life and my personal down time are things i really feel i must maintain. otherwise i'd go crazy.

Allure, same, from a similar killer high school. My cousin just graduated from MIT, got a fat job with an investment bank and gasped in horror at my work load. She says I'll never work that hard in college. Also, my Yale campus interviewer was quizzical about all the summer work I had for the AP's. So what, may I ask, has all this been about???

cruncha ... killer high school. lol. my school's actually not that great, probably not a top-flight one like yours.

but i have to say, i doubt i'll ever work this hard again. i won't care about my grades as long as i do 3.0+ work in college and learn a reasonable amount of stuff.

summer work... now, that's illegal at my school. so being in the same category with other killer high schools amuses me. :)

Allure, sry, I got the posts confused, I meant to address MzLover3 about the AP's. Wasn't senior year supposed to be something to look forward to?!

it really depends on your courseload. depending on how you sign up for classes, your mileage will vary.

otherwise, certain aspects of senior year are really fun. more priviliges and all that, and it's your last year in high school --whoo!

Well, my idea of "something to look forward to" is laying on my bed reading a book. So, I'm happy with the arrangements =)
