I took only one AP in highschool (AP English) I got a 5 on the exam, but do you think I should've taken more.

How important are they interms of admission to kenyon.

If it helps, I'm sort of playing the "i screwed up 9th and 10th grade but got my act together in 11th and 12th grade card)

Specifically Bs one or two Cs and a few As (Eng/Hist) in 9th and 10th.

And all As with two B+s in 11th and 12th

2000 on SAT

Lots of ec (model un, tennis Capitan, newspaper columnist, photography, international affair magazine columnist)

and i always do well with interviews.

considering all this, with only one AP... am I screwed?

Not taking more APs hurts you when compared to other applicants as Kenyon cares a great deal about taking the most difficult classes your school offers. It is especially bad that you didn’t get lower grades in honors and APs, but “normal” classes. That said I realize most students don’t have access to many AP classes in 9th and 10th grade. You don’t mention your current GPA..perhaps it is not even that low after mostly As the last 2 years?

I would focus on what you can bring to Kenyon that is special, and also show a passion for Kenyon and the chance to study there (lots of genuine interest)…maybe tie in something about continuing your upward trend and reaching full potential in college and beyond. Excellent essays, a campus visit (milk the interview), good contact with your rep, stellar letters of rec and you should have a good shot.
