Hi everyone, my teacher gave out our textbooks today and we got out first assignment (to read chapter 1-4). My teacher said that the book is very good, but I have heard some people that it isn’t very good because it isn’t very straight forward. So, I was wondering if I should bother to read/skim the book or use a booklike Crash Course or AMSCO. Any advice would be great! (my teacher is not very good)

Do not read American Pagent. It is the dullest literature ever. Find out what edition it is and read the notes online. PM me for help.

It depends if your teacher is using the pagent’s test maker to make your exams or not. My teacher used a textbook’s test generator and we got the most ridiculous questions.

“what year was the constitutional convention…?”

We got the pagent for the first couple chapters and i hated it. I barley read the textbook that we got. I relied on notes/class and 5 steps+crash course. i got a 4 on the exam.

Even my APUSH teacher tells us that American Pageant is so dull, he couldn’t imagine assigning it to us.

Instead he uses AMSCO as our “textbooks”. He attributes it to his ~75% pass rate.

So, just stick with AMSCO?

I don’t know what people’s problem with the book is honestly… Yes it can probably be dull and so Americanized with bs but it does tell u everything and even stuff u don’t need to know…which can sometimes show up on the ap. I do suggest u read it but that’s up to u

We’ll be going over half of this textbook for Honors American Studies this year, but if a student wishes to take the AP exam, they are required to finish the entire book. Is this enough to prepare for the AP exam or are additional prep books suggested?

Im 300 pages into the book right now. I read the chapter and then read the online outlines to summarize the important events. Its pretty good but it has alot of superflous info that you dont need as well. I suggest reading this book to get an understanding of us history, then supplement it with direct hits, crash course, and if you want amsco. Do that and youll be ready for the exam.

Pageant is a little hard to get through, and sometimes it gets a little unnecessarily wordy, but all in all it’s not a bad textbook - we used it all year, got through almost all of the chapters, and I made a 5 on the AP. If you want to be lazy though, use apnotes.net.
