APUSH down to Honors Gov.

I'm currently a Filipino Junior at a magnet high school in Nevada. I'm dead set on majoring in Civil Engineering wherever I go for college. I'm taking my first AP class this year in APUSH and its going pretty well! We begin planning our senior year schedule in a couple of weeks. I will with no doubt take AP Calculus AB and AP Physics B but I'm considering downgrading my social studies by taking honors government instead of AP Government. Does a downgrade like this in a senior schedule hurt my chances for college admission or not so much? Any feedback will be great!

(Here's my Chance Post if you want to take a deeper look: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1449689-2nd-chance-me.html )

I’ve heard AP Gov is a relatively easy AP. lots of kids here take it when they haven’t taken an AP class before (government is required for seniors). It may be worth keeping since you’re doing well inAPUSH. It doesn’t seem too bad here- my D is taking it. Where are you applying? That’s a question which may help you decide. Some places you will really want to take as many as you can reasonably do successfully. Others it’s not going to matter as much.

I really don’t think it will hurt your college admission chances. Colleges look that you are taking a difficult course load. By taking AP physics and AP calc, you’ll be fine. Having another AP class could help w/ credits, though.

I would talk to some seniors who are currently in AP Gov. Is the class very difficult? Is there a lot of work? I know at my school there isn’t.

Thanks alot to both of you guys!

@89wahoo, idk I loved my first APUSH teacher because he made it easier than other teachers but he left last month, leaving us with a long term sub. Both government teachers next year don’t sound any easy or special. My chance entry has all my prospective schools but most of them are in California. UCs would want me to take AP Gov. Cal States not as much.

@pat1120, I don’t know much about the workload for my schools AP Gov but it seems harder than APUSH now. I’m taking Calc and physics because that’s what engineering s based on. The last thing I want is AP Gov intruding on my Calc and Physics classes.
