APUSH essay- historical inaccuracy!!

I was wondering if it is possible to still write a passing essay if it contains a historical inaccuracy. I mentioned (not a huge point, but I definitely talked about it) something that was 40 years before the prompts time period... arrg! How much is this going to hurt my score? The essay, even without the mistake was pretty bad. My DBQ and other free response were good though.

If the rest of the essay was at least decent, I can’t see it becoming a complete nightmare. I know a lot of people who are kicking themselves over writing about things out of the time period; I think it’s common enough that it’s not an automatic failure of an essay. My (albeit arbitrary) guess is that you could still easily get a 7 or so. I did speak to somebody who wrote their entire essay (#4) on something very different than what was asked, so that will obviously hurt him a lot more than yours, assuming it wasn’t a huge focal point of your essay/thesis.

If it’s incorrect they just ignore it. The only problem is if it directly contradicts your previous statements, i.e. “Garfield was a great president…but he was a poor president” etc.

You’ll be fine if it’s just a detail. If you’re referencing something that happened in the past to contrast it with an event in the time period, that’s fine - you’re using outside information. However, it would be safest to clarify that you know it’s outside the time period and just supporting information.

@anomaly, you JUST MADE MY NIGHT!
I’m pretty sure I just made up women in the progressive era.
Mary Chapman AND Carrie Chapman catt? they can’t both have the same last name…

It was on what i studied two weeks before, so I loved it!!! and the FRQ, was on something that i also studied and i used an exact date, hopefully it works… :)

also does anyone remember what ammendment, prohibited the denial to vote based on gender, because I just wrote “the ammendment” i didn’t want to guess it wrong, for the FRQ???

On my AP U.S. Gov exam I’m pretty sure I made an inaccurate statement as well - it pertained to the prompt, but it wasn’t essential. I would assume since the graders’ are supposed to be looking to give you points rather than take them away, an error that is not too egregious would not affect your score too much.

wasn’t that the Voting Rights Act in 1965? I don’t think it was an amendment.

OMG YOU GUYS, I just looked it up online and it said the 19th ammendment, that is the one I guessed exactly on the outline, but i didn’t write it down… oh well,
is anyone else going to take the SAT II’s in US History???- no need to answer that, but is this a smart move, since I am already taking the APUSH exam?
