I know that collegeboard and nobody wants to limit/provide a minimum for an essay length, however how long should a good DBQ and FRQ essay be? I would imagine that the DBQ should be longer than the Free Responses, as a) more time is allotted for it, and b) it's weighted more. But how much is too much... and how little is too little?

My teacher says at least 2-2.5 pages. and she never said extra length is needed for DBQ bc the extra time is used/needed to interpret the documents and formulate and argument

I have not yet taken an AP exam in a humanities subject, but I think a good rule of thumb is to try to fill the almost the total amount of allotted space; they give you that much space for a reason, after all.

^ They give you around 15 pages of blank paper.

It’s about quality not quantity, but a good rule of thumb is ~2-2.5 pgs (front and back counts as one page) for the DBQ, and around 1.5 pgs (front and back counts as one page) for the FRQ.
