for anyone who’s taken the AP american history exam. Are we required to memorize specific dates, because there seem to be millions of them.
thanks so much!

No my teacher gave us several released tests. Not one single question with a specific date as the answer. Just know the general order of events.

hey, what do you guys think is the best way to prepare - reading AMSCO once and taking notes/memorizing important stuff OR rereading AMSCO as many times as i can before the exam, no memorizing?
and how do i prepare for frqs?

You do not technically have to memorize exact dates. For example a question will not say “In which of the following years was the Declaration of Independence signed,” but it is good to know dates of major events as “benchmarks.” This will help in the essay portion of the test.

As others have said you won’t need to know exact dates but knowing the order events is important so you can see how one event caused another. Also I found it was helpful to break up all of the history into the different presidencies which allows you to get the approximate time period for events and also to make easier connections when writing the essays.

So basically dates aren’t necessary for multiple choice or essays, but they can definitely help your essays.
