APUSH or AP euro?

I am interested in taking both courses, but I can only fit one, and I don’t want to drop a science for it. Which course would you recommend taking?

For the most part, I believe the general consensus is that it is best to take APUSH before AP Euro. I would recommend APUSH, as I am taking it right now and I love the class.

Alright, I will be a senior, if that helps at all. My social studies background is honors US, AP world, and AP gov, if, again, that helps at all.

I did Euro as a sophomore and US as a junior (now). Both of my teachers were mediocre, so they didn’t/don’t affect my view of the classes.

I personally prefer European history, since it seems more easily divided, it covers more exciting things, and because it is a really diverse subject. IMO, USH through 1900 is slaves, tariffs, Indians, and some ****ed-off white people (which, to me, is really boring).

Alright, I don’t mind either, because I love history in general. I was just wondering which would appear better.

Take the USH class and self-study Euro, which is easier to self-study since there is a lesser emphasis on facts.

I would recommend APUSH over Euro because though they both teach you history, I think APUSH is much more enjoyable. I found that it also better relates to other subjects. Once you learn everything in APUSH, you’ll see all these connections and allusions that you didn’t previously understand. You will in Euro as well, but not as much. I also just found APUSH to have more enjoyable subject matter than Euro, but both are good classes. You can’t go wrong either way.

I agree with you–definitely don’t drop a science to take both.

Colleges don’t prefer one over the other. They’re both challenging and informative; they just teach you different things. My suggestion is to look over the curriculm (collegeboard) or the specific curriculm for your school and ask around about the teachers, since who teaches it often plays a big role on how enjoyable and worthwhile the class is.

Totally agree with 314159265. AP Euro is more exciting and easier to study, because it can be easily divided into histories of different countries. The DBQ on Euro is also, in my opinion, much easier than the DBQ in US. You don’t need to use tons of outside information for the Euro DBQ. You just have to analyze and organize the documents effectively. But it really depends on which subject has a better teacher.

In reality, you don’t need to use any outside info on the Euro DBQ (though it doesn’t hurt if you do).

I LOVED APUSH, so I am of course inclined to recommend that you take it over AP Euro.

I talked to my councilor, and I have decided to take one of my extra math courses over the summer, and drop spanish for it, so I can take both. I don’t plan on doing anything related to spanish, but I will do stuff with history.
