APUSH Prep Book?

Hi,
We use the American Pageant textbook at our school for APUSH
however, I was wondering what a good supplemental book would be for the American Pageant Textbook
Especially for studying for tests

I was thinking of AMSCO or Princeton Review, but any suggestions?

Thanks!

I have a discussion similar to this that no one has answered yet. :frowning:

Anyway, my school provides AMSCO, and I really enjoy it. It’s really thorough and not boring to read (though not as snarky as Princeton Review). My only complaint with it is that it is BIG. It’s over 700 pages, which isn’t really good as a review book. However, as a supplementary text I would definitely recommend it.

@tupac4

Thank you.
Yea I’m a sophomore who is looking into going to APUSH next year, I want to go ahead and buy a good book to supplement me as I go through the American Pageant this summer.
Are you currently taking APUSH right now?

Whoops, sorry! I didn’t see this. Yes, I am currently taking APUSH. I’m a sophomore too!

@tupac4 based on your experience with the AMSCO book would you recommend it to read to go along hit American Pageant? thanks so much! I’m taking APUSH next year. did you take any ap history classes beforehand as well?

huh, my friend at another school actually uses AMSCO as their actual book! Their class is very lecture and discussion based so they don’t need an actual textbook. If AMSCO is good enough to be used as textbook, it’ll be just fine as a review book.

I am a current junior in APUSH right now. As a prep book, I use PR. I’m not sure how I feel about it though because it doesn’t go too much into detail. But hey, that’s what the class is for, no? I plan on purchasing AMSCO to review once I finish all the chapters of APUSH in class.

best of luck next year.

I really recommend AMSCO to go along with American Pageant, yes. It’s honestly great. My school uses it as a supplementary text along with our textbook, Out of Many. (Most of the students [aka me] are too lazy to crack open the actual textbook which is lengthy and boring anyway so we actually secretly only use AMSCO. It’s become the unofficial official textbook.)

Last year as a freshman I took AP World History and got a 5 on the exam, which I was pretty proud with for being my first AP. I used Princeton for my review book if you were wondering. To be honest, Princeton is, like wattba12 said, pretty…conceptual. It’s more of a quick review-the-concepts-and-main-ideas type of book rather than something that’d be useful to actually learn from as it’s not really detailed.

Oh, another thing! AMSCO has practice quizzes and practice essays throughout the book but it doesn’t come with any answer key. Maybe they sell the answer booklets online and could manage to get a copy, but at our school only the teacher has the answers for the multiple choice questions. It’s really sort of a hassle and kind of why I want to get another review book with practice tests I can actually use. But if you’re using American Pageant too I bet they have practice tests in THAT that you can use if you’re really set on AMSCO.

Thank you so much
Yea I was thinking of purchasing AMSCO for the APUSH course…
and PR… based on both of your opinions I’ll be purchasing both … but anyway about the amsc

Wow that^ glitches really pain me.
But yea, wow.
AMSCO as a secret textbook…
So it was not as hard to read but detailed enough to pass the unit MC exams in class?

wow. Thanks for all the advice, @tupac4 and @wattba12 ! I hope to have an A next year …hope to reach this goal

(my first comment - i wrote more than what actually got posted for some reason so some glitch happened- urk! :frowning: )
