Hey guys, I have the Princeton Review book and have read a little bit of it. I'm wondering if I should get this AMSCO book. I hear a lot of stuff about it but have no idea of what is about. Basically, I'm wondering well PR be sufficient to score a 5 on the United States History Exam. I did AP World with PR and got a 5 but then I just read a thread about how PR sucks for AP Gov. So thoughts/advice would certainly help.

Thanks

I find PR to be a decent review for Gov. As for APUSH, I used PR and got a 4, so I know that using it can help you get ready to pass. It can come down to how strong of a writer you are for whether or not you score a 5, but PR will prepare you pretty well.

I swear by AMSCO. Get the book, it’s like a very mini-textbook almost that covers everything just right.

I haven’t seen TPR or Barrons or any other prep book in depth, but from glancing at my friends’, I find that many gives superfluous detail. Get AMSCO.

thanks, i dunno if its realistic that i can get through AMSCO entirely. I heard its 700 pgs??

If you’re a fast reader, AMSCO is a fairly easy read. But if you don’t have time, you can probably get a four or five by supplementing stuff you have learned in class with REA Crash Course.

I read through AMSCO once in about a month, but if I sat down for a few hours I could get through it in a weekend. Also if this matters to you, the first practice test I took after reading AMSCO once I got a 72% (which is a 5) without any extra review. I’m going through crash course now just to know the acts, supreme court cases, names etc that I forgot about. AMSCO is very good for overall concept, and has all the things you need to memorize, but you still have to memorize them.

I agree, with 2 weeks left I would get the REA Crash Course book to use for review. It is much easier to get through quickly. Here is another link that should be helpful [AP Central - The AP United States History Exam](<a href=“Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board”>Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board)

I agree with everyone about crash course, I purchased it thanks to dark knight’s highly convincing argument for it. After reading it through one time I took a real practice multiple choice exam (2006 I think) in school and got an 84% on it. Right now it’s most pragmatic to get the REA Crash Course instead of AMSCO I think.

I haven’t been on cc long enough to know…what does AMSCO stand for?

@imagodei: AMSCO doesn’t stand for anything. It’s just the name of the company; people like to put it in all caps for whatever reason.

People put it in all caps because it’s in all caps on the cover
