Tomorrow is the big test. I was reviewing, and a question popped into my mind. Although Andrew Jackson is considered a “Democratic-Republican,” would you say he is more of a Federalist or Anti-Federalist? On one hand, he greatly increased the powers of the presidency (Federalist like), while on the other hand, he got rid of government programs, such as the National Bank and didn’t support industrialization (Anti-Federalist like). What do you guys think? Any predictions on the essays?
I’m pretty sure he was Democratic, not Democratic Republican…
It’s hard to box Jackson as either an Anti-Federalist or Federalist. On one hand he was heavily against Hamilton-esque policies like the national bank. On another, he did heavily use his power to his advantage. If anything I’d compare him to Jefferson.
The Pre-Colonial time period and the Post-Reagan time period should not be a DBQ subject. Populusm/Progressivism may be good bets to study?
I was also looking at Jefferson, which is why the question popped up in my head. Yes, his party is considered “Democratic-Republican.”
I was taught that Jackson was considered the founder of the Democratic Party…
