APUSH Questions from a Highschooler

I’m going to be a sophomore next school year, and was considering taking AP U.S. History. The only AP class I’ve taken so far is AP Human Geography, and everything’s been going well. However, I realize that AP HUG isn’t as rigorous many other AP classes. I’ve never been great at history or memorization, but taking this class would meet my U.S. History requirement and allow me to take other AP social science classes. For anyone who has taken or has information on this class- do you think it would be worth taking for a non-history lover like me? I’m just unsure of the workload and general difficulty. Thank you!

More info will get you better advice.

  1. most HSs have a typical history/social science sequence- does your school? If so, what year do students typically take USHx? If it is usually in Grade 10, then by all means take it as a sophomore. If (as in most of the schools that I know) it is typically a Grade 11 class why do you want to take it early?

  2. what can you find out from students and teachers at your school about what APUSH is like at your school. How much reading is there? what’s the homework like? is the AP teacher considered to be a good teacher- or a gorgon? How do the AP and regular classes compare?

  3. what other SS APs do you want to take? why do you want to take them?

  4. what are your broader academic goals? is this focus on APs about getting into college? Do you have a good understanding of the ways in which APs do- and do not- help with college admissions?
