I'm going to be taking APUSH as a sophomore this coming school year and want to know if anyone did any summer prep before taking the class as I want to get a head start! Also, any tips or opinions anyone wants to share!

Well I was forced to do summer prep by my teacher. We have to read a book called “Howard ZInn’s a People’s History of the United States”. Honestly, I would say it gives a great overview so I would suggest reading it. There are actually websites that have the entire book online. I’m also going to purchase a review book (barron’s or princeton review) for APUSH. This I will be working on throughout the year to prepare for the exam.

I did no summer prep other than a book that was assigned by the teacher.

My son and some of his friends had some “mini-parties” (popcorn and friends) and watched some of the better PBS US history related miniseries (John Adams, Civil War, Liberty! etc. ) over the summer in prep for APUSH. There are some fun US History books (for background) that could be a little helpful but make summer not seem like so much work (e.g. http://www.amazon.com/America-Last-Best-Hope-Volumes/dp/1595551255). Despite all the facts to assimilate, and practice tests to do - perhaps APUSH can still be fun (it was one of my favorites and it was one of my son’s too).
