APUSH Summer Reading

does anyone have to read any books for their upcoming APUSH course? just curious.

last year my class had to read "Maggie a girl of the streets" and "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court" We also had to watch 5 movies and write 2 essays.

Last year, my APUSH class had to read Stephen Ambrose's "To America". (In addition to readings from AMSCO)

My APUSH class last year had to read "Undaunted Courage" by Ambrose, 2 amazingly long and boring articles from an American history magazine, and write an essay. It would have pretty easy except I didn't decide to take the class until a week before school started so I had to do it all in a very short period of time.

I had to read a book called Foudning brothers last year. It was soooooooo boring.

Founding Bros and American Political Tradition

I had to read "A day in the life of a slave girl" and "all the presidents men". That was a mix of 19th century and 20th century.

Last year I had 3 very boring books:
Autobiography of Malcolm X
Mornings on Horseback by McCullough (even though I loved Truman and John Adams, Mornings on Horseback was incredibly dull for me)
Burn My Heart on Wounded Knee

a people's history of the united states 1492-present by Zinn

a people`s history of the united states (1492 - present) -- zinn
out of our past -- degler

in addition to AMSCO.

we had A people's history of the United States by Howard Zinn

Last year we didn't have to read anything, just had to write an essay comparing 2 views. This year she's making the kids write the essay AND read the first 4 chapters of the Pageant and define terms and answer questions.

We have to read Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs for APUSH.

the summer reading for APUSH for the past two years has been...
Theodore Roosevelt: A Strenuous Life by Kathleen Dalton...

I swear it is the most boring book I have read in my life.

I wish the summer reading was something by Ambrose...I love him. He makes everything so clear. Zinn is pretty awesome too.

we just have to read the first six chapters of the text book and take notes on all of them.

Zinn is a great writer and a very good read but he is so liberal and so revisionist which makes me dislike him so much.

My little brother has to read Miracle at Philadelphia and Killer Angels.

zinn is a madman.

he gets really angry in some of the passages. at least there`s some drama that makes history interesting.

when i took it two years ago we had to read The Frontiersman. TORTURE.

Don't talk to me about torture. I had to read Edmund Morgan's Ben Franklin book. Don't get me wrong, he sure knows his stuff, but my god could you be anymore dull? Then again, people say it's just his writing style. Whatever.
