There are five Arabic language flagship schools and several Ivies that offer Arabic language/culture studies. Which do you think would be better?

Can you name them all?

What are the flagship schools? In the Middle East, Chicago, Columbia, Georgetown, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Michigan, NYU and Penn are considered the top Arabic Language and Culture departments in the US.

University of Michigan
Michigan State University
University of MD - College Park
University of Oklahoma
University of Texas - Austin

Alexandre…really interested in where you got your information from…researching schools and programs…thanks in advance for any information provided!

Arizona has a reputation on par with several of those. To a slightly lesser extent, Indiana U, Ohio State, and U Washington also have excellent reputations.

Of that list, UT Austin and Michigan have by far the best reputations in Middle Eastern Studies. I would take several of the Ivies over the rest (except maybe Maryland with $$) as an OOS student – partially because the other publics are not as quite strong as those two in Arabic/MES and partially because they’re not as strong overall.

The obvious question of cost should come into play. The Ivies are usually cheaper, sometimes significantly so, for a student with financial need than most OOS publics.
