Arabic

I'm coming in to my first year this fall, and the Arabic 1 class is full. I saw that it isn't available next quarter, so I'd like to be able to just pick up Arabic 2 then. But to study by myself, I need to know what type of Arabic is taught in the classes?

Standard, Egyptian, Saudi, Jordinian?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since none of the language classes are posted on the waitlist website, you might want to email the instructor and ask him/her for an add code. Sometimes, they do have a few spots left within the classroom capacity, which is generally bigger than the max capacity of the class, but other times, they have a waitlist in case people drop the class.

I think I’ve heard something from my friend about Arabic. It’s probably Standard, if I remember correctly. You can also ask the instructor or find out on the Arabic department website for more information.
i would say its standard with a lot of egyptian mixed into it since the instructor, magda campo, is from there and is known to focus on topics related to egypt.

Arabic is very very hard to pick up on your own.

I wonder though, since I know the lebanese dialect on arabic, would it actually be harder for me to learn a different dialect. I’d basically have to override 18 years of language pronunciation and vocabulary.

Thanks for all the help everybody. I really appreciate it.
I’ve emailed the professor about possibly getting into the class.
