I was admitted to HSU for geospatial science.

After getting off a plane at relative's house in So Cal I arrived in Arcata today after a 10+ hour drive. After walking around for literally 5 minutes I got back into my car and immediately drove 10+ hours back.

It's worse than people say. There were literally kids walking around smoking joints at 9 in the morning while their parents watched... Some guy was walking around in front of the apartment I was supposed to rent talking to a plastic icecream cone stuffed with weed... Everyone has dreadlocks and seriously smells...

I'm just posting this here because when I was choosing schools I read posts on this forum saying HSU is a normal solid university in a cozy unique town. Stuff like that heavily influenced my decision to go there.

No offense but what the f**k... People need a fair warning of what it's like there. I just wasted a year of my life and a lot of money and its back to community college.

It is not a normal environment or a good school. It's a quarantine for drug addicts. Normal students will NOT like it there. People deserve to know this before bothering.

Wow. You are crazy. You just wasted a year of your life for no reason at all. You didn’t even start school. Are you always so knee jerk? 5 minutes in town and all of a sudden it is not a good school? Good luck.

Taking a year off and working is not a big deal. Being stuck in Arcata would have been a big deal for me.

I of course knew it was a bit strange there and watched videos and asked around but I didn’t know it was literally 100% drug addicts wandering around in a stupor singing to themselves, playing guitars with no strings on them.

I am being kneejerk considering how let down I am. I think the worst part was stopping by Sonoma State and UC Berkeley on the way there then comparing Humboldt… I felt like a failure just for being there seeing the difference in the students.

You are overreacting in an extreme manner. Berkeley is full of pot. Don’t have selective blinders on. What will you do at your next school when you see someone smoking pot? And yes you will. If you have any sense you would turn around and drive back.
