Architecture acceptances 2010

DS just got rejection from Penn State, but got an interview for UNC Charlotte. The wait continues…

Kent State Honors ($10,000 a year), Ohio State, Penn State (Landscape Architecture)

DD applied to ASU, Arizona, Minnesota, Iowa State, Illinois-Champaign, Ball State, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Penn State, Miami & Cornell! Still waiting on Cornell & Miami, did not get in to Cincinnati DAAP - offered an alternative program. Right now she’s leaning towards Iowa. Any feedback on any of the schools/Architecture programs is appreciated!

I can only say from my research that Iowa State turned up in the top 20 and in some cases as high as #12 in the rankings. Penn State has a great 5-year program, and they take very few into the first year so they don’t weed them out later. Cornell is consistently ranked at the top.

Thanks for the info, Sportsguy5. I think your idea of pursuing another major for your Bachelor’s is a great idea…tried suggesting that to my D but she has a heart set on Arch. Btw, she got an e-mail yesterday saying that the Jan 30th meeting was not mandatory for Arch applicants…? Very contrary to the original invite that went out in Dec…not sure what to make of it. Did you get a similar e-mail?

Year before last my older sister was accepted into UNC Charlotte, NCSU and VT (we are from NC); she decided on VT because of the ranking and VT offered scholarship money. She loves it at VT. Arch is a lot of work, but she says the program is fantastic. Perfect fit for her.

Yes, I got a similar e-mail Annlob. I definitely remember them saying it was mandatory, and now it’s not? weird, but I can’t go on February 6th, so I guess I’ll be waiting for NCSU COD until mid-to-late March.

accepted by Cincinnati and Penn State, waiting on Cornell and Carnegie Mellon

anyone who has applied to Penn State and UC, what is you opinion on the two? I am leaning more towards UC but now im not really sure…

D2 has been accepted to architecture programs at both Penn State and Cincinnati. She’s waiting to hear from VT.

When she started this process, her priorities were: VT #1, Cincinnati #2 and PSU #3. She’s starting to lean towards PSU at this point, partially because of money, but also with the idea that if she ever wanted to change her major in the future, PSU has a lot of options.

I should mention that we are in-state for PSU, which, of course, was one reason why it was her #3 choice in the beginning. Since then, however, she has spoken to a couple of arch students at PSU and also seeing that it’s ranked (for whatever that is worth) fairly highly in the DI 2010 school rankings, she is bending, ever so slightly, towards Penn State. Cincinnati did give her the $2,000 Cincinnatus scholarship, but even with that, there’s about a $10K difference per year between the two schools. Even VT, at OOS rates, is only about $5K higher than in-state PSU.

Money is huge in Cincinnati versus Penn State, I’m out of state for both but PSU is still much cheaper. My major question at the moment is whether Cincy is worth the extra money because of co-ops (the programs seem pretty similar otherwise)?

Accepted into USC, Rejected ED from Cornell.
Waiting to hear from RISD, Syracuse, RPI, Northeastern and Pratt.

Congrats on USC!

Thank you! :)

Got into UT Austin but wants UVA as first choice. Won’t know until 4/1 I guess.

Jazzer - when did you hear from UT. DS applied at deadline but he’s OOS so he figures it is a real long shot.

He got his acceptance letter Jan 15 and it was on the website a little earlier than that. Where all is your son interested in going? My son liked UVA and UT the most. He looked at NC State, UNC Charlotte, Cooper U., U of Cinn., and Rice.

He’s accepted at Cal Poly (yesterday) and Iowa. He’s in U Oregon and Kansas State but now he’s waiting for their architecture decision. Waiting for Cornell and UT. He doesn’t have a strong preference; I think he’s waiting to fall in love with the ones who accept him:)

D accepted at Tulane ($15K merit), Miami (Ohio), MD (Honors), waiting on USC, ND, Cornell, GeorgiaTech, VT, Michigan. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of MD or Tulane architecture programs/reputation? Similar to csfmap, she doesn’t have a strong preference; waiting to see where she gets in.

Hi Brinker - Regarding Tulane, it is a 5 year Masters program, and the $15K is good for all 5 years as long as the major is architecture. It was recently named as a “hidden gem” by a leading architecture magazine. [Tulane School of Architecture :: TSA selected by DesignIntelligence as a “Hidden Gem of Architecture Education” in 2010](http://architecture.tulane.edu/news/779) Also, because of the continuing rebuilding of New Orleans, many of the architecture students are getting the ultimate in a “hands-on” education, and seeing their work actually implemented. If you want to know more about the school in general, feel free to private Message me.

RE: Tulane

[Sundance Channel : Architecture School](http://www.sundancechannel.com/architecture-school/)

This was a TV series called Architecture School. It followed Tulane architecture students. My son downloaded it to his iPod from iTunes - I think the whole series cost $10. He enjoyed the series. It showed the design/build concept and I think it is a good program for anyone interested in architecture but it would be of special interest to someone looking at Tulane.
