Hey guys, I am currently a junior in Architecture program at UTA and I only have 2 semesters left. I have been weeding out of architecture and was planning to switch into Arch. Engineering or keep pushing with Architecture and taking some pre-requisite classes either for (Pharmacy or Dental School later) which is BIO minor. It has been a really tough decision to make for me. I need some help!!! OR switch out into BIO major completely.
If you’re a junior now, switching from architecture to architectural engineering is likely to add a ton of time to your degree.
You need to look at the course requirements for the engineering degree and see how much longer it would take you to finish them. The coursework is very different from architecture and is very sequenced. My D is an arch eng. major and took one architecture class.
Thanks, I did take a look at Arch. Eng degree plan and it might postpone me for a year behind if I decide to switch and at least 5 courses of my Arch got transferred over.
Well since you’re not doing well in Architecture, you likely won’t do well in Architectural Engineering which is even harder so Bio may be the best way to go. And maybe you can teach middle or high school Biology if you decide not to pursue grad school. It’s better to graduate with a degree you want and can use than graduate with one you hate or barely got so an extra year or so to figure things out isn’t bad given you have to live the rest of your life with that degree.
Also go see your academic advisor at UT Arlington (every student has access to one) and see if they can help you decide how to best end your undergraduate years.
@vynguyen12, Can I ask why the late change of heart?
If you are sure you have no interest in architecture, you will need to talk with your school on transferring to another major and how much longer it will take you to finish with either a science or engineering degree. Planning to go to Pharmacy or Dental school, I wouldn’t go the engineering route, even though it seems like a more straight forward path to finish. Check what schools require to apply for Pharmacy or Dental school and pick the major which will be the easiest path. It’s very likely that you will not graduate next year, so you will need to be financially prepared for that.
