I am admitted to the architecture program in both Rice University and RISD, and I’m having a hard time choosing one between them. Rice’s architecture program is a six year program that includes two degrees: B.A. and B.arch. I really like the Preceptorship Program in the fifth year, when Rice assign students in top architecture firms around the world for at least 9 months. But Rice is located in Texas and I’m worried about internship opportunities and connections. RISD’s program is a traditional five year B.arch program and is located near New York, which may has more opportunities regarding to internship. Also, RISD’s next to Brown, and RISD students can take classes at Brown.
I think both are great schools and have their pros and cons. But I am just have a really struggling time to decide.
You should post this on the Architecture cc board. You’ll probably get a lot more feedback from professional Architects, parents, and other students of Architecture.

My vote is hands down - Rice simply because they offer a well rounded education and their Architecture program ranks very highly. See Design Intelligence rankings: http://■■■■■■■/r8ud6x. Take a closer look at the Grad ranking which includes all the colleges that offer grad degrees. However, none of the 4 year Arch. majors (such as WashU, Princeton, Harvard, UVA) were on the UG list because that only consist of 5 year BArch so the grad list is more complete.
Also, if for some reason you drop Architecture, Rice has many other majors to choose from. RISD is limiting since it is just a design school and you don’t want to have to transfer out.
The Preceptorship is really amazing - you will most likely have a job when you graduate and anywhere in the WORLD. Usually the firm you work at your 5th year will make you a job offer.
The education at Rice is 5 years not 6 since your 5th year is working at an Architecture firm. You can choose where you’d like to work too which is really neat.
Thank you so much for the information! I’ll post on the architecture cc board.
