Are there any other applicants to the architecture program out there? If so, is anyone having problems with the 20 word limit on your answers? Or am I the only one having a difficult time writing my responses? Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, Most of mine are around 30 words. If it lets you submit the form with answers over the limit, I see no reason why you should limit your answers to 20 words considering how ridiculously small that is. Answering in under 20 words makes the whole questionnaire seem pointless if you ask me…

No, when they ask you to limit your words to 20, you need to do that. They tell you that for a reason and you need to follow their instructions.

vonnrw, in fact, it is not pointless. they do so because they know it is harder to write concise sentences than to write long long paragraphs.

I am aware of that concept but the questionnaire is not really an essential part of Carnegie’s process like an essay or personal statement that has a specific word limit. It is simply for the architecture admission officers to get to know you better - it cannot count against you, just like the portfolio reviews/personal interviews. It is meant to help you or at the worst and very unlikely case, not do anything at all. They do not use the questionnaire for anything significant or decision changing like essays or academic informations, etc.

I would assume in any program with as few slots as the architecture program, anything could be seen as a tipping factor. Even one as simple as not following instructions.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I sent it in in December. Only one response had 23 words. It wouldn’t have made any sense if it was any less. Good luck other architecture applicants!

I’m sure they won’t mind if you have 30 words. An extra ten words won’t kill them.

Do they tell you if they recieved your questionnaire and portfolio? I know it’s sent directly to the arch department so it wouldn’t be on the where am i in the process. . .
