Architecture

I heard architecture is one of the hardest majors to get into? What advice can you give a high school junior to maximize their chances? Also, if you got accepted to this major, please post your stats including test scores, AP classes, and GPA.

THANKS!

Hey, I recently got accepted into the Architecture program at SLO

I made a 27 on my ACT (28 Superscored)

I have a 4.73 GPA (approx.)

I am 13 out of 265 in my class

Out of State

I have tons of EC’s… some people say that EC’s don’t help your admission, but I find it hard to believe that someone in the admissions office doesn’t recognize someone in the applicant pool via outstanding EC’s. You know?

My school is small, so we don’t have access to the multitude of AP’s that larger schools have access. If you are from a small school, take as many AP’s. If you are from a larger school, take as many that fit in your schedule.

I took AP Physics B, AP Calculus AB, AP Literature (Currently), and AP Art 2-D Design (Currently). All honors classes outside of AP.

I promise that I am not trying to brag, but to give tips ( I hate people that brag). I have gotten accepted to every university that I have applied to thus far, I attribute it to powerful essays that reveal my passion toward architecture, doing strings or orchestra (cello), Eagle Scout (It helps a lot, but I know that you can magically receive that in a year. If you can, I want your autograph.), Student Council, and taking French for 4 years.

Best of luck and make smart decisions.

Im a hs senior and I applied to the B.Arch major at SLO for Fall 2011 and im on the waitlist…

My stats:
SAT - 1900 (600 CR, 630 M, 670 W)
ACT - 27
GPA - 4.0 unweited, 4.33 weighted
Class rank - 25/512 (public hs, in state)

As far as advice, I’d say do really well on your SAT/ACT and keep your GPA up. For the Cal State Univ. system, they look primarily at test scores and gpa for admissions decisions. There is no essay for the CSUs, and there is no EC section, only a few supplement questions about how many hours per week you spend doing EC activities and if you have any work experience relating to the major you apply for. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns, Id be happy to help out

artek1993: It is no wonder that you got accepted with those stats!!! Congratulations!!!

Dekeman16: Do you remember exactly what the questions at the end were? What stuff did you do that was related to architecture (like did you take AP Physics, Drafting?) Good luck by the way! :)

Thank you both so much!!!

My first semester for senior year i took a Regional Occupation Program course in Construction Technology offered through my hs. That was the closest class/activity i had that is related to architecture… also i am currently in ap physics and thats coverd in the course listings section
