Architecture

I had a question about the architecture major as well and any suggestion for housing. I will be an incoming arch major and am struggling to figure out which housing I want. It is either between Sierra Madre/Yosemite or the Cerro Vista Apts. I have heard positive and negative about both. I was leaning towards Cerro because I feel that after working so hard I will want to come back to a place where it is quiet/by myself. But I have also heard that they are way less social…any advice???

You might look into Sequoia. It’s the red brick dorm for Architecture students (although not everyone is an arch major). My daughter was in it as a freshman and loved it. They enforce quiet hours, yet it is social. They also have an area set up for students to work on projects. She said that many of the arch students in other dorms were sorry they didn’t choose to live there and ended up hanging out in Sequoia by the end of the school year.

I agree with momomom. My son is currently in Sequoia. He was deciding between Sierra Madre/Yosimite or Sequoia and chose Sequoia because it was recommended to him by a third year arch student who had stayed there. He is very happy there. Sequoia has a large study room with drafting tables and it’s not a quiet room. It’s been a fun place to do his work (especially when his roomate wants to sleep). Sequoia provides a built in group of people who are doing the same thing - keeping the same hours, working on the same projects and taking the same classes. They give each other support and study breaks. They’ll work for a while and then go play something like volleyball or ping pong or go eat at the late night cafeteria and then come back and work some more. It’s a social setting. Initially, my son was worried about being around the same people 24 hours a day, but the dorm has more non-arch majors than arch majors. It’s worth checking out, ask9011.
