Architecture

i agree taxguy...do you think they have a special purpose??? (That's why I am asking where the people are from!!)

bneg, you asked, "Do you think they have a special purpose?" I don't understand your question. Who are they, and what are you referring to? Please clarify your question.

they=UC, what= looking only at GPA/class rank for decisions...

bneg, Texas did a similar thing. They automatically admitted anyone who was in the top 10%. This was done as a form of affirmative action. This way they can get more under represented minorities. I believe that UC puts the same emphasis on class rank for the same reason. This is reinforced by fact that they are only NASAD accredited school to not require a portfolio.

They argue that rich students have access to tutors and good art programs that poorer students don't have access to. Thus, there is no portfolio requirement. Again, affirmative action indirectly rearing its head.

hi! i have a question for all of you: i received the invitation to Cincinnatus today, but i did not get a decision (and i can't check because i'm international~)
what does that say about the decision??

I think that all it means is that your grades and everything are high enough to qualify you for the scholarship competition. Still, being accept to the arch. program automatically qualifies you for the competition (due to the high requirements of DAAP) so I would maybe call and see if you were accepted just in case your letter was lost in the mail. I have a friend who had to call her college to find out she was accepted, she didn't get an email or a letter or anything for whatever reason, even though she was accepted. Weird things happen so you might want to look into it.

Bneg, my daughter got the same invitation to the Cincinnatus Scholarship, and she hasn't been admitted yet! We called the school about this. They noted that she met the requirements of the Cincinnatus Scholarship, which is different than the admission requirements for DAAP.
They made it patently clear that being invited to the scholarship competition has no bearing on whether you are admitted or not.
Frankly, sending out scholarship info before a student is admitted seems rather bizarre to me. However, there are lots of bizarre things involved in their admission policies.

ah, if they made it clear than i guess it's just a bizarre thing. anyway, thanks!! there's one more thing: i have a student ID already.... do they assign one to all applicants?????

This depresses me; I have a 1600 sat, top 10%, and was rejected because my guidance counsilor didnt send my transcript in early november, I wasn't even notified that it was missing until after winter break began, so wasn't able to send them anything until january, after many of the slots had filled.

The same thing happened to me Taxguy.. they informed me that I got into the school, but that architecture had been filled before my application was complete.

Yargg, as I have said in the other thread: ALWAYS call the schools and make sure that they got all your information! This is especially true for schools with rolling admissions. This fact should be put front and center at the top of these forums.

Taxguy, you're definately right. I hope that other people can learn from my mistake.

the program admits a certain number of people, so I would imagine that if not all of the people who are accepted attend, those slots open to others who may not have gotten their info in quite soon enough, right? If so, I'm sure there is still some opportunity for those who have incredibly high test scores, etc. (Yargg). I did not have a 1600 on the SAT but I got everything into them in September and I did have high scores and class rank, so I was accepted. Still, I really don't plan to go, I have my heart set on another school (cross your fingers I get accepted!) so wouldn't that kind of slot open up? I hope so! And, I'll be seeing any of you who are attending the Cincinnatus competition on Februrary 17 and then the thing at DAAP after! Good luck!

CShow, it is true that not all may attend UC. However, for architecture, they are in the top two schools according to the ratings. Thus, you won't see too many kids geting accepted and not going. UC is really that top notch in architecture and for some other majors in their DAAP school. Frankly, I don't think that any major in DAAP is weak.
