Architecture

I originally posted this in the Architecture forum but it would be better suited here.

I want to major in architecture and my goal is to attend UT Austin. But I do not have the grades. So I have been thinking I will participate in the CAP program, and UT Arlington looks to be where I will probably end up.

The only problem is you are only guaranteed certain majors, architecture is not one of them. This makes everything seemingly more difficult but getting into the school of architecture still seems possible. Until I read the UT Arlington CAP FAQ- University Advising Center - UT Arlington: What are some CAP FAQs?

Which makes it look like architecture is absolutley NOT an option.
The UT Austin web site makes it seem possible to major in architecture after CAP, its just not guaranteed, UT Arlington makes it seem as though there is no way in hell you will ever be able to do so. Who is being more misleading? Is internal transfer possible or will it just end up being a huge waste of time? UT Arlington has a good architecture program but I really do not want to spend the next four years of my life in Arlington, or too close to home.

Advice?

All I have heard is that it is VERY hard to get accepted into architecture at Austin. You’d have to have excellent grades, I imagine. Good luck! I was an architectural engineering major, and I really admire people who have talents in architecture - I totally bombed my two design classes, even though I tried very hard.

My D has a very smart friend who started out at UT as a freshman and has been getting quite good grades and has been trying to transfer INTERNALLY into architecture at UT with no luck; they must just not have enough space for all of the great candidates who want to be architects. If you know that you want to be an architect, the idea of “transferring into architecture at UT” is not a safe plan. Are UT and UT Arlington the only state schools that offer architecture?

University of Houston has an architecture school that seems to be pretty reputable within houston. but, that might be because houstonians like to think highly of their local university. in any case, you should consider looking into that if you don’t want to go out of state and want a relatively inexpensive college education.

If UT is not going to work out I will probably just end up at UTA. Seeing as those both North Texas and Texas State do not have programs.

This is what I found in terms of arch. programs in Texas:
Prairie View A&M University School of Architecture
Rice University School of Architecture
Texas A&M University Department of Architecture
Texas Tech University College of Architecture
University of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture
University of Texas at Arlington School of Architecture
University of Texas at Austin, The School of Architecture
University of Texas at San Antonio

Prairie View A&M- Historically Black College
Rice- Can not get in
Texas A&M- Would not fit in, Deadlines passed
Texas Tech- Four years in lubbock!!???!??!
University of Houston- Rather go to UTA
UTA- Probably
UT- I wish
UTSA- Probably choose UTA over it

Thanks though
