Are 3 SAT IIs better than 2?

Hello,

I have been asking friends, parents, guidance counselors, admissions officers and more this same question, but I guess I still don't know what to think of it.

Say I'm applying to a school that only requires 2 SAT IIs, and I already took 2 in differing academic areas. I got the same (good) score on those 2. If I took another SAT II and got the same score again, would that give me an edge since I have one more test than another applicant who has only 2 tests even with the same scores?

The way I am wording it may be frustratingly confusing for you all... if you need further clarification I'll be more than happy to try to help you help me!

You are pretty much asking, “Is having another good test score under my belt good or bad?” The answer is pretty obvious.

It seems like what you really mean is “Is it worth my time to study and take the test?” It all depends. It depends on how your other stats are, you don’t want your grades or anything else to slip. However, if you can handle the extra time needed to study, then by all means GO FOR IT!

If you have two good scores, you don’t need a third. For most of those that require two if you submit a third they use the highest two and ignore the third. The exceptions are Harvard and Princeton which require two but state they will consider any sent, including lower scores against you. Even for those having more scores does not add that much.

drusba, would a 740 Math 2 score be counted against me at an institution like Harvard? Or is it basically pass their minimum threshold and will be more a neutral type deal? My other SAT II’s are 770+ (2 others)

There’s not really an advantage to taking more than the requirement.

@magantaturtle No, it won’t.
