Are ACT's recommended for UC's?

Title says it all.

The UCs stand by the claim that they’re unbiased, and recognize each test equally. Submit whatever’s better. I’d assume that an ACT would be more valuable for science/engineering admissions.

Really? Wow, yeah I plan on majoring in engineering but I never knew the ACT was recommended for that.

Nothing official, but it’s logical to assume. I’m not sure if colleges can see the science subscore of the ACT (shame, too, because that was my saving grace).

disco’s just guessing, and he’s not right.

either test would be fine for admissions at UCs

It is recommended that you submit the test score that shows you in the best light. So, if you got a 1900 SAT and a 32 ACT, submit the latter.

I’m not wrong, either. None of us have direct access to the minds of the UC admissions. The ACT emphasizes a student’s breadth of knowledge in math with straightforward questions, and has a science section that forces him/her to reason her way through questions.
The SAT uses math questions that make the student learn tips, tricks, shortcuts, and pay attention to detail, with the other 2/3rds of the effing test being language based.

Who’s to say an admissions officer to the College of Engineering does or doesn’t prefer one over the other?

EDIT: I’m saying if mine were equal, I’d submit the ACT. Of course, submit the one that’s better.

So the ACT has a science section also?!?! You cant just study for the SAT and take the ACT then i guess.

The science section is more reading comprehension instead of science. Read it fast!

They give equal preference to both the ACT and the SAT.

SAT or ACT is fine for UCs including engineering. For engineering, the actual section score any will consider the more important is math from either test not science. Some of the UCs (LA, Berkeley, SD, SB, Riverside) do recommend math 2 and a science subject test if applying for engineering
