Does anyone know if whether or not you get into one Claremont college is related to your admission at another? I applied to three this year - Pitzer, Pomona, and Scripps - and have so far been waitlisted at Scripps, admitted at Pitzer (+5000/yr in merit aid), and am waiting on Pomona's decision. I'm not trying to sound arrogant, but my rejection from Scripps was kind of unexpected, especially since I got into many more competitive schools (Pitzer among them, but Wellesley, Barnard, & WashU as well.) I've kind of attributed it to admissions seeing me as a bad fit for Scripps...I also had a pretty original essay that could really be a hit or miss, and my interview was a little mediocre. Also, I applied for JES and admittedly would not have considered Scripps without a scholarship (so lack of interest maybe?) Still, I'm also wondering if the decision is related to my applications at other Claremont colleges, and if this would have any effect on Pomona's decision?

Everything I've ever read on these boards, heard in person, or seen myself says that no, Claremont admissions decisions are not at all related to one another. I know people who've asked admissions and also been told no, but of course, I've never been 'behind the doors' myself.

Judging from the threads I've seen popping up all over CC lately, no one should be surprised by any rejections this year. The applicant pool was so sizable, and so well-qualified, that published statistics lost a fair bit of their predictive power. It sounds like your waitlisting (which is not a rejection...) could have been related to any number of things--poor fit, lack of appreciation for your essay, mediocre interview, lack of interest, and from the sounds of it, lack of great knowledge regarding the school (you obviously have a number of great schools from which to choose, but none that you list strike me as so exclusive that a Scripps waitlist should really puzzle you).

Pomona's decision will be independent of Pitzer and Scripps'. I say that with about as much certainty as is possible without being an admissions officer myself. Best of luck with the rest of your results + decisions. Like I said, you clearly have some excellent options.

Student615 is correct, the schools do not communicate and each makes an independent decision. Good luck with Pomona and you do have some great options! Congradulations!

They say they are independent. My son got into both CMC and Pomona so that seems to be the case.
