Are aids available for international students in these universities?

I've heard before that some of the Universities do not have aids for students outside the US. I'm a future international student myself and I'd like to know where are the scholarships available so that I can properly plan where to apply.

1) Carnegie Mellon University
2) Massachusetts Institute of Technology
3) Stanford University
4) University of California--Berkeley
5) Cornell University
6) University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign
7) University of Washington
8) Princeton University
9) University of Texas--Austin
10) Georgia Institute of Technology
11) California Institute of Technology

You can find out if aid is available by going on a web-site for each of the university and browsing through financial aid pages.

OK. Sorry.

Just so you don’t make the mistake in the future, it’s “aid”, not “aids”. Another mistake I see internationals make all the time: in the US we “take” the SAT and other exams, we don’t “give” them. If you plan to attend college in the US, you might as well polish up that English now!

4) University of California–Berkeley …NO
5) Cornell University
6) University of Illinois–Urbana-Champaign … NO
7) University of Washington …NO
8) Princeton University
9) University of Texas–Austin …NO
10) Georgia Institute of Technology …NO
11) California Institute of Technology

NO public university offers need-based aid to int’ls. None of those offer merit scholarships to int’ls, either. There are some other schools that offer merit scholarships to int’ls, but your list doesn’t include them.

The other schools on your list will provide NEED-based aid (not scholarships) to int’l students who are accepted (which is very difficult) and DEMONSTRATE that their income/assets QUALIFY for any aid. Some may be “need aware” for int’ls…which means they consider need before deciding to accept or not. And, again…the FEW schools that give lots of need-based aid to int’ls are very, very, very hard to get accepted to.

I know that you take the exam not give. The only mistake I had was aids and thank you for correcting it.

what about ivy league?

Only Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Dartmouth are need blind to international students. At all of the others, your ability to pay will be a factor in the admissions process.

Ivy league schools do NOT give merit scholarships, they only give need-based aid to accepted students AFTER they have thoroughly looked over your family’s income and assets and investments to determine how much THEY think your family should pay. There is often a “student contribution” as well.

As Sybbie mentions, only 3 are “need-blind” to int’ls…however, all of them are very, very, very hard to get accepted to …and even harder to get accepted to if you’re from a country that has a lot of int’l applicants. What country are you from and what are your test scores and GPA?

I’m from Georgia(not the state) and there are students who try to get to US universities but don’t think there is too many of them.

3.8 GPA (I’m from the School of Physics and Math)
SAT 2240

Subjects

Math I - 800
Math II -800
Physics - 760

I don’t know how accurate this info is but it may help you add some other colleges to your list that you can research further.

I’m from Georgia(not the state) and there are students who try to get to US universities but don’t think there is too many of them.

I think that the lower numbers of applicants are from African countries (not including northern Africa)… I’m not sure about former USSR counties. Usually, there are an abundance of applicants from Europe and Asia.

Your chances at ivies and other top schools are low…very low. And again, many of them are “need aware” for int’ls.

Take out all the publics on your list. if your family can contribute enough to pay for your room, board, books, travel, and personal expenses, then apply to schools that will give you large merit for your stats as back ups.

however, if your family can contribute very little for your education, then really all that might work are the schools that meet full need, which again are very difficult to get into. Also, keep in mind that full need schools will determine how much your family should pay. They may determine that your family should pay more than it can afford.
